I know what you are thinking a typical Tottenham fan ranting after a big defeat....

However I need to express how I feel about that dismal performance in which I feel was probably our worst this season.

Where we went wrong:

· Why change a defence that has played well together not conceded in 6 games??
· Moderic WASTED on the wing! Not a winger does not have the pace or the crossing ability iff you are playing with a target man.
· Defoe continuously getting caught offside never seen a player get caught offside so much.
· King not closing down and being a yard slower than everyone else.
I look at our team and we played three of our strikers tonight and we still did not create a single chance for a third of the game. We NEED at least one world class striker and/or a midfield player to break the top four!

Arsenal = Fabregas/Van Persie and Arsharvin
Man U = Wayne Rooney and Berbatov

Chelsea = Drogba Essien Lampard I could go on and on with them...
Liverpool = Torres and Gerrard ( Both didnt play and yet still made us look like a championship side, would have been about 3 or 4 if either was playing tonight)

I know we are going to struggle to get a player of the above quality not playing champions league football, therefore we need to sign someone who has the credential to get us there and I am sorry Keane, Defoe, Crouch, Pav etc are not fit to lace any of the aboves boots.....

I agree in most. It seemed we had no passion, drive or belief for the whole game?

I don't think they made us look like a Championship side.

It was a classic smash and grab for 75 minutes. It was only after then when we really came at them that they had their couple of chances.

Everything was "almost" tonight, and the second balls that were dropping for us earlier in the season haven't been dropping for us in the last couple of games.

In reflection it wasn't entirely unexpected that we'd lose tonight - given the fact that Liverpool had 7 points from the last 3 games, and only denied a win in the last minute against Stoke. (A bloody tough team to go to).

Don't get me wrong, we weren't very good. But we had a lot of the ball for us as against a Sky 4 team away from home. Final ball, final pass etc. And the fact that we had a perfectly good goal chalked off 3 minutes after the restart. And a perfectly good penalty claim turned down.

2-0 was unfair on us, for me. Even Martin Tyler said Liverpool were playing like a European side away from home.

It's not as dismal as CHANGE THE STRIKEFORCE. They've been blunted for the last two games, but maybe that's because we've been spoilt by everything going right against Wigan. We shall overcome!

Second to every ball!! I don’t get it we have two very passionate mentors at the helm in Harry and Joe yet it is not rubbing off on the players! IMO we needed some width tonight although I do not particularly rate him I think Bentley deserved a go tonight!

Oh for god's sake, get a grip. We're 4th in the table for a start. I don't know how long you've been supporting us but really, 4th is like dreamland.

You're right, we didn't play well tonight but we largely have been this season.

One point of detail - Modric wasn't and has never been played as a winger. He"s tucked in just as Tainio or Davids were under Jol (although obviously operating in a more attacking way).

Of course none of us like to lose. A bit of perspective is always useful thoughm

So in your opinion Stoof do you feel as a squad we have enough to crack the top four?

Being 4th makes no difference unless the season is finished. Do you think that the Scum are thinking, 'we're top. Job done.'

Tonight is the biggest blow to any ambition we have for that fourth spot. Liverpool are one point behind, Man City are level with a game in hand and a far easier run in than us. Villa are yet to fold as many thought they would.

This is not to decry our loss, it is venting frustration that a team that was there for the taking have nicked three points off us. A team beaten by Reading less than 10 days ago, I might add.

We can still finish fourth, but tonight's loss has turned it into a gargantuan effort.

CLAP** CLAP** (Rep to follow!)

And just to reiterate your point this will knock our confidence and I will almost guarantee you that by the middle of Feb we will be 7th!

I have not seen the character from this side to finish 4th, look at Arsenal 2-0 down at half time and then go on and win the game 4-2 because that is exactly what they needed to go top!

Gutted!!

Striker-wise? Yes. Are they hitting a bad spell of form at the moment? Yes. Have they inconsiderately all done it at the same time? Yes.

Usually teams get away with carrying a couple of off-form players each and every game.

Sometimes through the course of a season, you'll get one game that everything goes right (Wigan, 9-1) and you'll get a couple where they're all on the wrong page. That was tonight my friend.

Whether we'll make the Top 4 this season, I don't know. We've had some questionable results. But if you asked me at the beginning of the season if I thought we'd be 4th in mid-January, I would have laughed and probably had a hilarious wank somewhere.

So whether you reset your ambitions based on that, again, I don't know. We've got a chance, I'm not sure it's gone - but it'll be tough going.

Sorry but this is a very typical thread after a defeat. We've come a long way and we're still competing with the top four, big spenders City and Villa. Harry has put together a squad capable of being in the top 7 and we are pushing above our weight. Naturally we're going to struggle against the top four and have the odd game like Hull, Wolves etc.

This still a good season with us on course for a Europa spot, this was our aim and we are on target to achieve this.

I understand and respect your comments.

Just so disappointed after that performance that unlike you I cant think about anything positive at the moment.

Do you think that someone like Ruud is now a requirement?

I disagree, I think our aim has always been top 4??

I dont often if ever agree with you, aswell as have been bad repped by you on numerous times, but I must say that is a very good post. We may be 4th right now but the fact is we missed a flippin HUGE chance of knocking the stuffing out of Liverpool today. They were missing 4 of their best players, 2 world class by the way, and we just bottled it AGAIN. Take one look at our fixture list and tell me how many points do you think we will take in April......

We don't have enough striker wise to finish top 4. Defoe is class, Keane can be but is massively lacking in confidence and Crouch should be nothing more than 4th choice. We need to buy a target man if we're gonna finish 4th.

To say King was a yard slower than everyone else is a joke. The game seemed to be too big for Dawson, he appeared so nervous. King wasn't at fault for the first goal & Bassong gave away the pen. Still our only world class player (Modric will be soon, but must play on the left). If only King could play every game we'd be at least top 4.

Some fans and the PR spin of the club might make you think so but realistically 4th was always a pipedream. The sky 4 have been dominant for the best part of a decade and Man City have the finances to buy the players we need to compete at the top.

Like Villa last season and many before it was always obvious that we would fall at the last hurdle and finish short.

A Liverpool side that have won 2 and drawn 1 of their last Premier League games?

If you thought that we were ever going to go to Anfield to "knock the stuffing out of Liverpool today" then I can't really take into consideration many more of your posts, SD. I mean come on, can we take off the virtual reality helmet? Please?
