I was going to put this in that thread where you put your statement on the line, can't find it though.

Basically, i reckon this season Arsenal will flop and Wenger will be gone by the end of it.

Alot depends on Fibreglass/Nasri and how they replace them but anybody else reckon this could be Wengers final season?

The potential for Arsenal to implode is huge.

The last 6 years has seen them finish 4th four times and 3rd twice so they are genuinely a 'borderline' team.

With the unsettling of Fabregas and Nasri, their 2 genuine class players, as well as a serious injury list at the moment they may struggle to start the season competitively.
As seen already in friendlies the crowd are restless so if they don't start well they'll turn on Wenger and, maybe, force the hand of the board.

And then what? Modern Arsenal is Wenger so how will the playing staff cope with the head cut off, with the mastermind who has cultivated a poor man's Barcelona replaced with someone who views the game differently?

A lot will depend on how we, and Liverpool do, as we need to get off to a good start to really put the pressure on the top four places and hasten a potential meltdown.

If Nasri leaves alot is dependant on Gervinho to start performing straight away.

But I honestly think they have two of the brightest midfielders in the league in Ramsey and Wilshere. They might not be a title winning side but I have a hard time seeing them implode, even without Fabregas and Nasri.

Van Persie, Song, Sagna and are all genuine quality.

edit: Ok, looking at their squad, a few injuries and they could be in alot of trouble.

Fibreglass and Nasri named in the Woolwich Champions League squad - if they play either of them then that'll really put the interested teams on the back pedal, or reduce the players' values by a substantial amount each.

I wonder if the child catcher is doing it to try and force them to stick around? Make them play for the Woolwich and the temptation of going elsewhere in the knowledge they won't be allowed to play the CL for the year might reduce considerably.

The one weekness that they have that won't fix easily, is their 'mentality'.

We saw last season how fragile they are becoming, against us (home & away), the toon (home & away), Liverpool, WBA, etc, etc.

I would think that more than half the squad would look at Wenger, and have little faith in him, after all his words but no action in the TW.

Cracks will appear again this season. Hopefully enough to break them for many years to come.

They are no longer the kids of the Premiership either - Man Utd's team in the Charity Shield had an average age at start of match of 23.1 years. Arsenal's is somewhat higher. Spurs first team typically runs out with an average age of just over 27 years.

fabregas is gone. nasri likely as well.

wenger will have to buy right in order to save his job.

if he signs a bunch of kids they wont even finish in the top 5.

nowhere near 40 million for fabregas either.

29 million euros. plus 5 in add ons.. fabregas gives arsenil 4 mil euros in loyalty payments that theyve already paid him.

5 yr contract signed. number 4 shirt 125 million euro buyout clause.

Nasri is suspended for the first leg as is van Persie and wenger has a touchline ban.

As it stands they'll finish above us, they won't sack him mid-season I'm more concerned about us than them.

Don't see why you would be, they're losing their two best midfielders, have a notoriously dodgy goalie and defence and an inconsistent/injury prone strike force
Szczesny's improving with every game but in front of their ropey defence I fancy him to be a bit of a Shay Given. Often very good but still can't prevent the team shipping a lot of goals.

Will be interesting to see if Vermaelen can come back to his debut season level, but after so long out I think (and hope) that he won't.

I think even if RvP was fit throughout the season, which lets face it is very unlikely, they'll struggle to keep us and Liverpool behind them.

Wenger is also relectant to spend and said if he sells just one of Fab/Nasri he won't buy a replacement and just promote Ramsey to the starting xi. So, if they sell both they'll probably buy just 1 midfielder with the money and will still be significantly weakened

RVP is often injured but still scores a lot of goals when he does play, I expect Gervinho will have a good season. They still have Wilshire, Song, and Ramsay who's improving. I also believe they'll add a player or 2 if Fab and Nasri leave.

Add to that the club has a philosophy which filters down to their younger teams so when they come into the first team they know what they're doing.

I hope i'm wrong believe me, but I don't think we've improved this season and Liverpool i'm not convinced about their summer signings. Although with Suarez and Carroll they are looking strong up front.
