Us having rested players and a proper preseason is why I think we will push Man City for the title. People seem to forget we had poor performances all season because players weren’t at 100% after last summer so poch has to constantly rotate. Dele’s injury now kind of disputes what I’m saying but we will be a lot fresher. Plus we’re will have the new signings in in a couple of weeks to add excitement.

I looked at that team and thought typical arsenal, no English players. When poch joined he knew the importance of having an English backbone and integrating the young players who have the club at heart. Maybe emery will put more in the team this season but his signings don’t suggest that.

These were the HG players they had in May.
  1. Hector Bellerin
  2. Rob Holding
  3. Deyan Iliev
  4. Alex Iwobi
  5. Carl Jenkinson
  6. Emi Martinez
  7. Ainsley Maitland-Niles
  8. Calum Chambers
  9. Matt Macey
Iwobi and Jenkinson left together with players not on the list (Ramsey, Welbeck). They haven't signed any HG players.

I can't understand why ppl are saying they've had the best window.

They've barely fixed any weaknesses

I think they've had a good PR window when most of their fans weren't expecting anything:

Managed to drag us into two battles over players that I'm not convinced we were ever looking at as anything other than back up options;

Pepe was unexpectedly expensive, has come off the back of an excellent season and is a prime Fifa generation player.

Tierney I don't know from Adam to be honest but I've heard about him often enough. No idea what to expect apart from an attacking full back.

Luiz is obviously extremely high profile and they got him from another rival. At £8m, I'm presuming that Chelsea know something Arsenal don't though and he's obviously erratic in a back four even at his best.

Weirdly, they've got quite a few highly rated attacking midfielders coming through their youth system - an area they keep stacking with transfers. Not sure they've got a defensive production line though.

Fans used to brag when their club signed good players at a bargain price.........then they turned their attention to net spend.........well now Arsenal fans have taken it to the next level.............they are now celebrating initial payments (though still calling it Net Spend). They are bigging up their DOF, for how much of the fees is paid this season!!!! Just when you thought they couldn't bee anymore small time.

So, next summer, when they have another £45m pot, will they be happy when they realise its already taken by the Saliba fee and down payment on Pepe?

Like others have said their recruitment is weird. I can understand tierney but he’s got injury problems. Luiz, lampard got out the door ASAP, that shouldn’t sit right with anyone. I listened to H&J yesterday and they had Robbie from AFTV on. The Chelsea fan said he was delighted to see the back of him but Robbie couldn’t understand why. Strange.

Plus they still have the Ozil problem. Signing Pepe, who will start for them, will make it worse as he will play even less games so will be a problem for the manager as he’ll be asked by the media every week why Ozil isn’t picked.

I hope they start badly, we must beat them 3/4 games in. If they do it could unravel quickly with any luck.

I must be the only one who thinks Iwobi is an ok player. His problem seemed to be that he was in and out of the team at Arsenal and couldn't get a rythym together. I've definitely seen flashes of potential and an Arsenal mate told me that he's much better for Nigeria where he's the main man.

I think he could do quite well at Everton.

Agree. He's got some very decent attributes (dribbling, pace etc.).

He was a scum whipping boy though, which must have got to him. The audible groans made him fuck up passes, or shots because he tries too much to appease the fans which made the groans louder. That's gotta effect your confidence.

At Everton I could see him flourishing. Walcott he is not. The man can play football.

If anything I think it’s strange that they sold him this late, even if it was for decent money. Okay, he may not be the best player in the world but at least he would have given Arsenal som decent depth. Now it feels like they really lack that behind Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe.

Looking at that list, they must have some HG issues surely?
The PL rules don't differentiate between club HG and Nation HG so that isn't a problem.

EL is another matter. If I've seen right they will need to omit one or two foreign players from the squad.

They are probably trying to get their youngsters to be backup. Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Maitland-Niles etc.

I bet he used to pinch Lampard's love handles in the showers and call him 'Fatty', hence the rapid Chelsea departure.

Not to forget that Son won’t be away on international duty in a tournament.

Emery on captaincy: "At the moment we have three captains, Xhaka, Mesut and Nacho… I want to take two more with our squad.

From today's presser. If those are their captains, they truly are bereft of leaders.

Meanwhile... in the real world...

What planet do Arsenal fans live on. If we signed Luiz as our main CB I would be mortified. He has good days, but is ultimately a ? who has many, many more bad days.

Checked his Twitter feed. Suspect he doesn’t even live in London so unlikely he knows much other than the Twitterverse and YouTube of the delusional world of Gooners.
