Merson reckons we have no chance of winning the CL next season, so we shouldn’t bother trying. ?
I do wish these media pundits would try just a bit harder to conceal their trolling, just a little bit. Its just embarrasing. Also annoying people actually falling for it.
On TS today Goldstein actually got people ringing in after he proclaimed 'Liverpool have had a bad season.' He's fishing ffs, just ignore the prick and he'll be out of a job but no, instead we get Shane from Basildon arguing 'wtf you on about?'
Knob.

Chatted to gooner dad whose kid plays in same team as my son yesterday, he was pretty worried, asking how long in did we start seeing signs under poch. His take was arteta can't manage players and they have real issue on bottle - apparently they didn't get a single point when they went behind.
What made it better was chatting about transfers, when said about our 150m +cl +sales he went a bit ashen face and just said "oh fuck"
My inner voice was "hahahhahahahahhahahahhahahhaha"
If you had also mentioned the naming rights money to come he probably would have fainted!

I think Arsenal are screwed on many levels.

Firstly, Newcastle's new found wealth will massively affect them more than clubs in the top 4 as they will be shopping in the same market. Plus Newcastle's inevitable rise to a super power will push them further down the league. Secondly, they just gave a long term contract to a manager who is proven to be pretty poor. Thirdly, their squad is paper thin and has very little experience, and now they have to traverse Thursday night fixtures in the far flung corners of Europe. Lastly, their talented youth will not hang around, I would not be surprised to see Saka replace Salah at Liverpool next summer for example. I reckon they'll be lucky to finish in the top 7 next season with a resurgent Man U, a much improved us, Newcastle's wealth, plus Chelsea, Man C and Liverpool.

Not only did they not take a point after going behind, they didn't even score a single goal in the eight games where they conceded first last season. Shocking really.

Its a nice thought but they always find a way to push on unfortunately

Interesting post on arsenal mania

"I mean even those that back Arteta, and there aren’t many brave or foolhardy enough at this point to voice it, you can’t be happy right now, can you? I don’t hear anyone who is Arsenal fan truly happy about this. Arteta’s 3 year in charge after a massive net spend on players and I am depressed every time I think about football. The football has been terrible and Europa league is a spit in the face of a real club it’s like celebrating getting your wisdom teeth pulled, it is better than the alternative but only marginally. Watching Arsenal matches have been torture now for 3 years as the talent is shipped out for nothing and we watch Holding and Cedric decide our CL.

I lost weight so I am sexier than ever thank you, dying to get a shirt under the XLs I got. I am not sending 200$ with tax and shipping to Kroenke for Spanish Pulis and Europa league, I don’t live in England but till we are in CL my one man boycott is on. Give us a manager and player that deserves our backing doesn’t whing and cry for it but wins trophies"

Wilshere added: “I have still got that bug [to continue playing], but I have said it so many times that it has to be right.

“My goal is not to go to a club and then go to Real Madrid or go back to Arsenal. I want to go somewhere and enjoy it, and maybe learn a different culture that’ll help me with my coaching as well.”

Man's a footballing leper and he comes out with stuff about Real Madrid

Goons we’re joint worst for getting points from losing positions last season (4). We were fourth (14). Surprising to see Everton third after the season they had.

Thought this was particularly interesting considering how much Arsenal fans like to lean on our debt as a coping mechanism. I can only assume the majority their debt is not stadium related due to them being in the Emirates for over 15 years now. Is it transfer debt for the large amounts spent on their gamble to get back in the CL? Money owed to the Kroenkes?

We know for a fact that our debt is all long term and will be comfortably maintained by the huge increase in our stadium revenue (much higher than theirs too). Let alone the naming rights which are still being shopped around, likely with the aim to get enough for them to service the interest and repayments in full.

Personally I feel so confident on where we're at as a club compared to them. Even if Conte only sees out 1 or 2 years with us I genuinely think he'll have left us in a very strong position going forward. I'm really looking forward to seeing our next accounts, I think the stadium revenue (including food, drink and non-football events) is going to surprise a lot of people in football.

Ah the stat I saw was away matches only. And I was one off because it happened nine times.

Barca are planning to renovate Camp Nou this summer, right? Or they were. So I assume there's possibly more debt to come before they can say "this is our debt with our fresh gaff".
Old Trafford is falling to pieces, Anfield had one stand redone but I'm not sure if that's quite in 'needs no work' condition, no idea about the San Siro, and Atleti only recent made their new stadium, didn't they?

These things add two factors:
1- I think the most important facet is we've speculated to accumulate.
2- the debt is hedged against the value of that asset

Most of the debt things fail to take into account 'immediate' or 'short term' debt, versus long term leveraged debt. As I've noted a few times, it's like comparing credit card debt to a mortgage.

Spanish Pulis ??? I’m sure they nicked that from on here.

in 2020 Arsenal still had ~£160M of outstanding debt related specifically to their new stadium build. In 2020 they repaid this early (by taking a loan form another lender) and had to pay a ~£40M penalty fee for early repayment. Stan Kroenke had also borrowed £500M from Deutsche Bank in 2018 to enable him to buy out Usmanov's shares in Arsenal to make him sole owner (smoothly leveraging the debt on the club in the process - and some Spurs fans thought Levy was a bad owner!). That was a short term loan and has since been re-financed. Even before their losses due to the Covid pandemic, Arsenal had just made their first loss since 2003 in the financial year ending 2019. Arsenal also had a wage bill that was 5th highest in the league at ~£230M, and explains why they have been so keen to get the likes of PEA, Willian, Lacazette etc. off the wage bill and replace them with promising youngsters. Unlike Chelsea, Man City etc. they are not financially doped and were spending well above their means.

In comparison our debt is very well structured over a very long period and the additional funds we recently had injected were from ENIC buying shares in the club and not lending it money, or borrowing money in the clubs name. Our debt is related to massive investment in infrastructure (mainly the stadium) which will result in massive increases in revenue (i.e greater than the cost of repaying the loans). Levy has played a blinder. Kroenke not so.

When the financial results are released later this month I think we will see some very impressive numbers from the first full season with fans in the new stadium and non-football events being held. That and CL football will see us massively surpass Arsenal's revenues and enable us to put a significant gap in ambitions of our respective clubs.

I wonder what happened with Kroenke loan. It was due to be refinanced couple years ago never heard anything about it. Heard about the stadium debt but not the loan he took out to buy them.

The accounting period is until 30 June but the last couple of years we haven’t seen the full accounts until November December time.

So it will be a while. I’m looking forward to them though. Going to be some headline grabbing numbers and it will be the first time we get to see the real power of the stadium. Maybe they release an early update though for us if they are really amazing. I think they might have done that before.
