From impot.nt to important in the space of a few months. Who would have thought it possible that the Darren Bent of last season, devoid of all confidence and derided up and down the country as a waste of money is now our key player ?. If the most likely prediction comes true- Arshavin in , Berbatov out then we will have 3 players well able to play in the deep lying striker position - Dos santos , Lennon and Arshavin - but only Bent who can be described as an out and out goalscorer . Anyone else just a little worried about that ? Supposing he gets injured ? Or loses confidence again ? He has no form for us at all in competitive matches .

2 years ago we had an impressive pre- season, won the Peace Cup and then had a disastrous start. So we know that pre season matches are misleading. When Berbatov goes we do not need Arshavin ( though it would be good to have him ) as much as we need a goalscorer.Arshavin's career record is one goal in every 4 or 5 games- a 10 goal a season player. So the goals have to come from somewhere.

Suppose Arshavin creates 20 goals for others? Suppose our midfield actually chips in with goals this season like all the other top teams?

Can't get worse than last year can it ?

1st 14 games - 12 points on the board.

I don't care who scores them as long as we score more than our opponents with a nice few clean sheets along the way.

Would you rather get Mido back instead, he scored more than 10 didn't he?

Well for a start not everyone jumped on Bent's back last season. Some people pointed out that for minutes on the pitch he didn't do too badly considering strikers are meant to thrive on playing week in/week out. Secondly, a different style of play brings different options and we were the only team in the world to have Berba and Keano last season yet I believe quite a few other teams managed goals :) We need to forget that partnership and have confidence in the new team.

Bent will most likely be our main striker this season, and if he continues his form, he will netting in loads of goals, most likely more than last years strikers.

Arshavin, not exactly an out-an-out striker, but more of an assister, so even if he doesn't score as many as Bent, I'm also sure that he will be setting up the majority of Bent's goals so that is good.

The midfield has got good creativity which will lead to more goals, and as you have seen so far, our midfield has already scored a lot of goals so you can tell that there is gonna be a fair few flying in from there. For example, Bentley 3 in 3games so far, GDS scored a couple, Modric got 1, Lennon got some aswell, there we go.

It doesn't matter who gets the goals, if the creative midfield and Arshavin can create chances for Bent, he can score 50 if he wants. It's all about the creativity that leads to goals :)

I'm amazed that you guys think we can get by without a proven goalscorer in addition to Bent. Keane, Defoe and Berbatov are all a goal in 2 games worst way. I just can't see that we can get rid of all 3 without at least 1 additional proven scorer.

i think ramos knows what he is doing!!! I doubt if we would be after him if he wasnt that good. I think people underestimate arshavin, it would be a top signing, and a player who wants to play for us!!

I think that is the key, having a player that WANTS to play in a spurs shirt, unlike berbatov! So at the end of the day the dressing room environment improves, and we have another top quality addition, we saw we he is about at the European championships. The Premier League is like the Euro's every year, you face the best etc.

Arshavin will be no problem and a top addition!

I did not say that we should not sign Arshavin. What I said was that he is not going to be the answer to 3 prolific strikers out the door. Bring in Arshavin plus Villa or Eto great.

Yea but Bent will score 30, Bentley 10, GDS 10, Bale 6 or 7, Jenas 8 or 9, Modric 7 etc...

We have more goals throughout our team. I think people need to drop the whole Berba/Keane scored loads of goals, our midfield was average last year, we will see a more fluid tottenham and the goals will come from all over.

And if Bent gets injured .... Or loses form again... ??

If we are running with the three strikers, as we've been happy to do since January when Defoe left, in theory, if Berbatov goes, we need two more forwards.

Factor in the formation and tactics that Ramos has in mind, and it may not be imperitive that two strikers come in under those circumstances.

We will definitely sign one and most likely purchase two versatile players in the trend that seems apparent with our other close season purchases.

If Arshavin is one of them he will take on the Keane role, as could any one from Lennon, Bentley, Dos Santos and even Jenas.

If we were to lose Bent through injury, our tactics wolud change if we had no direct replacement. Remember the Keane / Defoe combo? It worked after a fashion but wouldn't be the ideal solution to line-up alongside our attacking midfield as there would be no point of hold-up.

On that basis I expect to see another target man in the pipeline to give us three proper strikers again.

No I was thinking of someone just a little better than that.

How many people knew about Berbatov? How many people thought, oh i wonder if he will make it in the premiership or not?

I think people forget players like Postiga!

Arshavin is the same as any player that has made a potential big money move to spurs. You run the risk!

Who has the right to say he will get 10 goals or not!? None of us have any qualifications in transfer or scouting abilities.

Sorry but Berbatov came on the same assumption, I would be interested to see who knew Arshavin before he played against England and in the Euro's. Pritty near to none i can imagine!

Hang about, when we won the peace cup wasn't it the pre-season before the 2005/06 when we started off solidly and held 4th for most of the season?

I reckon Bent will keep his confidence but would like to see a more out and out striker type bought in to play alongside him.

Bent didn't lose form, he simply wasn't played.

and there isn't a cat in hell's chance that we won't buy another striker as back up for Bent, if not this window, then definitely Jan.
