Arteta - vile

Did you see that nasty, deliberate poke in Pedersen's eye?

One of the most vile things I've seen on a pitch for a while. It wasn't a 'heat of the moment thing' - he pushed him, pushed him in the face, poked his finger in his cheek, and then stabbed it into his eye. It was calculated and vicious.

It seems the ref saw it, so how the hell was that only a yellow? Pathetic refereeing. If that didn't deserve a 3-match ban, nothing does.

It was bad, and could have got him a ban of 9 to 10 games rather than just three, but strangely the ref just gave it a yellow

It was an awful decision by the referee. I also like how Pedersen got booked for it aswell!

Pedersen got booked for provoking him by squaring up to him and all that.

But it was still vile and definitely a red card and extended ban for me.

It was shameful. Moyes said he told him he shouldn't do that but he had been targetteg for fouls, well David your lot did that to us in 2 games this season and we didn't stoop that low.
I suppose it's a typical thing that because the ref has booked him he'll say he saw the incident and there can be no further action.
Arteta is on of the few footballers in Everton I used to rate him, he has really gone down in my estimation.

It's only a little poke in the eye. Not like a Thatcher forearm smash really is it?

Still have him in our team in a hot second; he's a true artist.

Punk-ass move though to poke someone in the eye though, granted.

Exactly. A lot of overreaction here - instead of looking at what Pedersen was doing to provoke Arteta. It was a nasty gesture from Arteta, but no more than that, not a full-blown attempt at injuring a player. And Pedersen tried to take advantage of that by trying to get the player off, pretending he was hurt.

Arteta already missed a large part of the season through nasty tackling from lesser players, and he was being targeted by Blackburn again.

Its not an over-reaction, as you can cause serious damage to eyes without too much effort, so for him to poke him in the eye is not on. In rugby someone has got something liek a 72week ban for gouging.

Let me add to this that I think its completely wrong that player like Pedersen do kick him constantly, but he CANNOT get away with what he did, as it was completely intentional, cowardly and dangerous.

Missed it, useless without videos

Arteta is a really outstanding player, as said, i'd have him in our squad any day of the week - are we sure we can't play this off as Pedersen walked into his finger?

Arteta has said that he has no problem with strong challenges but Pedersen had intentionally gone in late on his left anklea couple of times before this incident(the one he injured, therefore has missed most of the season), it also wasn't the first time Arteta had been on the end of one of Pedersens so called tackles.

I'm not saying Arteta wasn't in the wrong but i for one wouldn't have blamed him for knocking his fucking head off his shoulders.

I'm not saying Pedersen is not to blame, but if Arteta had punched him on the jaw then it would have been fair play mate. Yet he didnt, he poked at him like he was telling him off and deliberately shoved his finger in his eye, which is cowardly as you can clearly see it was deliberate and that he was disguising what he was about to do.

Spot on. It's not an 'over-reaction' at all. Eyes are very delicate and permanent damage to them is debilitating.
