Sunderland would be incredibly reluctant to let him go after Bent went. Wouldnt it leave Danny Welbeck as their only registered stiker?

Err yeah, but you would expect them to use the money to buy another, that's normally how the transfer system works.

Frankly, I think he is likely to be far more effective than any of our current strikers.

I'd heard of him before the World Cup but never seen him play, so I made a particular point of watching. I was very impressed with what I saw and really wanted us to sign him in the summer, and was amazed when a side as crap as Sunderland got him.

He's not been quite the revelation I hoped he'd be in the Premiership, but it's his first season in English football and he's playing in a very up and down Sunderland side, who don't really create much.

He's still got all the attributes we're looking for, and which none of our current lot have got - strong, quick, holds the ball up well, technically good and can finish.

He's not necessarily the world class striker we might want, but Gyan + 1 other such as Rossi would make me very happy. Pav and Keane can happily sling it then.

I think he'd do very well for us.

Sunderland and Bruce would go insane if we went for him though, I can just imagine the backlash from them. They'd never sell in a million years unless we could get him to put in a transfer request, and even then I reckon they'd be after £20m plus.

a very good player and I'd love him here

fast, strong and good on the ball

we need to sign atleast 2 new strikers and if he was one that would be great in my book, like others are saying though Sunderland would be very reluctant to sell

World class for Ghana - Second rate for Sunderland.

You'd have to be bloody sure which one you were getting.

Was thinking the exactly the same.
If he could re-produce the Ghana form then for sure...but..

That reminds of the World Cup preview from The Observer, they had fans of every nation write up their chances and the Ghana piece went something like

"doubts remain whether the youngsters can step up to World Cup level or indeed if Asamoah Gyan can play at any level"

so at least one Ghana fan wasn't keen before the World Cup.

We seem to have a lot of closet Sunderland fans on SC. Is he really that much more cop than Pav?

Yes in my view but that's not saying much.

I don't think we will find one striker to tick all the boxes and make up for Defoe, Pav and Crouch's deficiencies. Personally I'd like us to sign at least two strikers and possibly a third for the future and hang on to Crouch and maybe Defoe.
