Yawn. Can we stop the petty point-scoring/semantic wank-offs? other threads are there for that. Ta muchly.

I have a slightly different addition to this thread as i haven't seen any of the Spurs game. Instead by the time I sat down it was half an hour into Hull Vs Beijing. And can I just say if we fail to win this tournament I'd be ruddy upset. They were cack. Both kept giving each other the ball. The football was poor. beijing looked the better side, which is terrible, even in those conditions. Hull were a little lucky and if they defend like that against Keane, Defoe, Pav, luka et al, we should finally be able to find our scoring boots.

I'd go for a 2-0 or 3-0 given that performance. Just hope the Spurs boys weren't watching and share my arrogance/over-confidence.

Did you at least get to watch highlights at 9pm last night?

Alright guys could u help me out.
i know bale is injured atm and gio is with mexico but since bentley got a bad tackle earlier in preseason i havent seen him in any pics or team news.
is the reason he isnt playing because he is injured?
is bentley in china with the rest of the team?
if he is injured do we have an expected date for his return?

He's at home along with Dawson, Crouch and Bale. Not sure if it is because of injury or potential transfer, but I would imagine the former.

They were showing the Hull game then, fella. Or at least here they were. I might be lucky and catch highlights at random moments over the next couple of days (yesterday they reshowed the Celtic game, for example), but didn't see if there were any replays of West Ham scheduled.

For the record, good performance, totally dominated them. Looked a bit toothless in the final third, we are desperate for another creative head in midfield.

I really hope GDS is given another chance by Redknapp. Because if we have to rely on the ponderous Ohara & Hudd, the eratic Lennon, the wayward passing of Hammersmith or the reluctance of Jenas we are going to keep dominating games without creating a shitload of quality chances just like last season.

Would have loved a Joe Cole, Benayoun type this summer for Modric to play with.

eh did you watch the whole game ohara played really well and was trying to setup the strikers and bring other players in. He also won Man of the Match , also lennon was only on for 15 minutes , didnt we also hit the woodwork and only just missed about three to four times, one by ohara, one by modric and one by huddlestone. Green was left for dead on those shots and only pre-season rustiness was the problem.

I liked the idea of giving the captains armband to Modric, and before you all start, yes i know it's not that much of a big deal and Ledders will get it back when he returns. But, it's a damm sight better than letting Keane be captain.

As far as Hull go, well they're gonna get a right old battering on friday, if the performances of the two teams are anything to go by.

Failed youth investment.

Key figureheads in Spurs resurgence and demise all orchestrated by mr greedy pants.

We make Spurs financially sound, not Levy. He has derailed us as much as he has helped.

BBLG has said all there is to say about that latest bout of bullshit, but you don't seem to gather the basic fact that Levy does not get a cut from transfer fees unless you know something we don't.

By the way, anyone see Hammersmith's lovely little piece of trickery early on. Little drag back and shimmy. Then wacked the ball 50 yeards to no-one.

Anyone else get the feeling this thread is SC's answer to an Old Folk's Home?

I think you are getting Greedy mixed up with being very good at his job! With both Berbatov and Keane Levy had no choice but to get as good a price as possible since both wanted to leave. Numerous, very pubic, events took place which highlighted that neither could be forced to stay. Doesn't work like that I'm afraid.

Defoe only left cos he couldn't get in the team (we resigned him at a loss. How is that good at his job) ahead of Keane and we couldn't risk losing him on a free.

Carrick....IIRC there were rumours that a rather crap new contract offered to the player was one cause of him leaving. If thats correct then yes, Levy made a mistake. However I personally believe he would have left us to play for Man U regardless of that.

Failed Youth - I think that sometimes we as fans buy into young players hype far too easily. Not everyone makes it. However it seems to me that our academy sides seem to win every tournament they enter these days...including some very prestigious tournaments so we cant be doing that badly. (We had no faith in them. We spent record amounts of cash in Jan so what was the point?)

Jol/Ramos - Complete f**k up and handled really badly. However if Levy had lost faith in Jol then I can understand why he would replace him even if I don't think it was the right move. Again this isn't about greed, just simply handled very badly.

You answered it all for me.

The dividends he received from his shares are mainly going to be affected by the success of the club. The better the club does in a footballing sense, the higher the share value, so the higher the dividends.

Aside from that, he cannot take a cut of money the club receives. Like I said before, being caught doing this would see him reported to the FSA, most likely voted out by a special resolution and there could even be criminal action.

Oh so now you changed your tune!!!?? (cough..google..cough)

So Spurs bank balance and share price DIRECTLY benefits Levy.

See, you learn. You LEARN when you speak to ole Gibbsy.

I looooved your "the better the team does on the pitch, the higher share value".

So Spurs fail to get where the real money is, CL. And Spurs don't do well overall "in a footballing sense" even when we had Berbs and Keane. Even with Carrick we missed out on CL.

So..so little one. Is there ANY other way to make the club money when we fail on the pitch? Hmmm. Selling your best players! YES!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Small side effect that you can no longer do as well on the pitch to make money, so lets hope Modric does well in the WC eh? Cha ching!!!
