Why was O'Hara marking Laursen ? Ah well ...

O'Hara should not have been marking Laursen but....

Losing Kaboul lost us one tall defender. Huddlestone for Boateng should have made no height difference except that the Hud has proved recently that he's as bad as Daws at marking at set pieces.

I would like to see who was marking whom? Daws still had Melberg (in his own inimitable fashion). Zokora had Agbonlahor. Who was Jenas marking? Who was Huddlestone marking? Was Berba on near post duties?

Whatever... The bottom line is that somebody taller than O'Hara had to be given the job of marking Laursen. And that's down both to Ramos and the players on the pitch.

2 corners, 2 examples of shoddy defending, 2 goals conceded, 3 points gone.
Out with the old and in with the new, eh?

We haven't won at villa park for 19 years, I would have been happy with the point.I knew that as soon as villa had that corner he would score. Ramos changed things and the players worked hard to the equalizer and they threw it away yet again. Its not just about individual players here, the whole team is at fault.

were just shit defensively its plain to see, everyone and their dog knows we cant defend so all they have to do is get a cheap free kick outside the area and bobs your uncle, id rather concede a bloody penalty less chance of scoring, i bloody hope ramos sorts it out, and flog berba and get a decent defender in.

and what the hell was that short arse ohara marking laursen for(that in itself is a recipe for disaster).

JJ was marking Maloney in the 6 yard box where you would expect the keeper to deal with aerial stuff.

At the very worst JJ and O'Hara should have swapped.

Robinson could have came out and tried to punch it away. Again it was an header on the 6 yard line.

Jenas was on the right post.

Very poor game by Spurs, the worse in fact under Ramos, and the lose was fully deserved.
The set piece problem is still there. Villa were more energetic and fully dominated the first half, and it could had been much worse than 1-0 at half time. A decent spell during the second half, but after the equaliser Spurs were again undone by poor defending from a set piece.

Would you believe it? Two more tap in headers from a yard or so out. No one bothering to mark. Groundhog day Spurs style.

Dawson can fuck off. Useless plodder.

We are desperate for a decent centre back to play with King. Preferably one who doesn't fall asleep every 10 minutes.

Legend10 - thanks for that. I entirely agree. Stick O'Hara on Maloney, who is no threat in the air. Then either JJ on Laursen & Daws on Melberg, or vice versa.

From my sofa, it's a no brainer. But I really really would like to know how Ramos & Poyet tell them to pick up at set pieces, once we've made substitutions. Obviously you want your biggest bodies against their best aerial players, but once you've lost a player like Kaboul, did they get new instructions? Or is it once again down to our lack of a defensive leader to make sure we're properly organised man for man?

Its a complete shambles. I have lost confidence in Robinson. He has lost weight (great, if he signed up to weight watchers) but what we want from him is to instill confidence in his defense. When A ball is their to be caught fuckin catch it, if the ball is nowhere near you don't fucking come out and not get the ball.

We defend way too deep on set pieces. Now who is accountable. The manager? The goalkeeper? Defenders? Someone is and needs to take responsibility. We will not get in the top half if we keep conceding set pieces. We have conceded 6 goals in the last 2 games and 5 were from set pieces. Its all well and good Gus (like Jol) saying we need to work on set pieces but nothing seems to be done. I know they were individual mistakes but its happening too often. Maybe the solution is zonal? who knows? The problem is I dont think no one does

First half we were absolutly shocking. But the brief must have been to keep the home fans quiet and just be solid. All that went up in smoke when Dawson for some stupid, stupid reason decided to leave his man because he was in an offside position. Isn't that the most dumbest thing a player can ever do?

Apart from that I thought Dawson had a good game but if he keeps having a good game but does that everytime I don't want him nowhere near the team. Credit must go to 2 players and 2 players only today - zokora and Jenas

I thought both had very good games in their unfamiliar positions. Thought JJ played with a lot of energy covering both right back and right mid for much of the second half

I was absolutly appalled with Boateng, Lennon and Berbatovs performances today. But the bottom line is IF WE KEEP CONCEDING FROM SET PIECES MORE AND MORE TEAMS WILL PLAY FOR CORNERS AND SET PIECES AND WE WILL NEVER GET OUT OF THIS SITUATION

p.s Defeo took his goal brilliantly but that aside was rubbish. Now I don't know whether thats because we were not good enough to give him good opportunities or his movement wasn't good enough. I would need to watch the game to make judgement

In those circumstances you have to be looking to your keeper (It's his penalty area) and if he doesn't do it somebody has to step up to the plate and lead. The trouble is defensively nobody has enough confidence to do it.

This is so stupid. Even me when I was playing for my college would have said something if a below average height team mate was marking their talles and best headerer of the ball. I think Robinson is at fault. If Ledley was their and that happened finger must point at him but in his absence Robinson (3rd choice captain and a senior member of the side and suposed England no1 should sort it out. His in a position where he should be able to see everything infront of him
