i certainly hope so. as much as i predicted and hoped we would catch up with villa this season, a disruption to the top 4 will bode well for us if we can get out of this fuck-up of a season. could make strides next year with the likes of chelsea/liverpool/arsenal's confidence dented.

Villa's achilles heel though, is a piss thin first team squad and they are still involved on three fronts. A couple or three significant injuries or suspensions may see Villa struggle to maintain momentum.

I am quite jealous of them. That could quite easily be us up there. Who knows why we've hit such a downward spiral. You could speculate and say that Jol was undermined big time and that affected the dressing room and our performances. We'll never know, but it is very depressing to see the gap now between us and Villa.

Unlike us, Villa have stability within their management structure and continuity on the park. Their best players start and they buy and sell with control and planning. Most of that team is an O'Neill signing now.

Compare their structure to our recent efforts at a workable long term plan and the differences are marked.

Until we give a Manager scope to have a prolonged poor patch without being replaced and until that Manager has his own team playing for him, with minimal upheaval every window, I fear the gulf between UEFA positions and our current predicament will remain unsurpassable.

I pray to god that they do aswell as Everton make a late run and push out 2 of the established top 4.

You dont need to spunk £15m at a time on players to have a good team. Them 2 clubs are everything that we are not it's sad to say. Good on them both and long may that continue!!!

As someone else said, I hope at least Villa can break up the big-four this season, if not Villa and Everton.

1) United
2) Liverpool
3) Villa
4) Everton
5) Chelsea
6) Arsenal

How good does that table look? The best thing is with a decent run by Everton, and Villa staying positive, it's possible.

With the CL coming up i am sure the way Woolwich and Chelski have been playing recently Villa and Everton could just sneak it. Everton although i don't really like their style, have done brilliantly recently as they haven't even had a CF. Now they have Jo and Moyes looks to be getting the best out of him

I wouldn't speak too soon. He started well at City and then lost the plot. Obviously a very gifted player indeed (that touch for his goal was something truly special), but at City he quickly got a reputation for being a lazy ****.

But it really is suddenly looking very open. Liverpool were pretty awful this afternoon and for the umpteenth time this season got a late goal to nick a result they didn't particularly deserve. What's happening at Chelsea I have no idea. This must be the worst run of games they've had in donkeys'—only 5 points more than us from their last 12.

Villa have a fantastic work ethic and togetherness which are two thngs we've sorely lacked.
They also have a settled system of play, good players and a good manager - simple really...

This stability thing is all well and good but you need ot have right person in charge to begin with. Middlesboro tried the stability thing with Bryan Robson and it didn't work out too well for them.

We bought in FA and Santini - Santini left

FA and Jol - FA left

Jol and Comolli - clearly wasn't working and they had a different vision so it was unlikely to work, Jol was sacked.

Ramos and Comolli - atrocious league record, we'll never know what might have been. Champions League football and the best free-flowing football we've ever witnessed or relegation. Maybe Levy was too quick on the trigger.

Harry Redknapp - we have an experienced manager who has more than often punched above his weight with the clubs he has managed. NOw is the time to back the manager 100%.

We do need stability but all the changes over the years to stop continuity haven't been Levy's fault.

I think Villa can and will get a top four place and when they do M.O.N will build upon that next season.

The bad news for us is that we are not going to get anywhere near the top four for very long time. Oh and expect M.O.N to come in for some of our players this summer...

Jesus, hope not.

Last time he came for our player it was Wayne Routledge, but it would be different now.

It does not look like we will qualify for Europe and finishing mid table is going to be considered a good finish. We have four quality strikers that we could not keep happy before and it won't be any different this time around. I'd expect him to come in for Bent, Hudd, Bentley and perhaps Lennon and JJ.

I think our club is in a recession we have the quality to be as good as Villa or Everton but instead we are just mediocre.
