Just like to say, what a great feeling it is to finally have more goals for that conceded.

Usually you look at the table, year after year and we are at 0 goal difference.

We truelly are starting to have a great squad.
Tight at the back, even without our 2 first choice centre backs as such. Considering are back four could change at anytime Dawson and Bassong have been immense. Bale working hard on his game and taking his chance with both hands.

Solid in midfeild, Wilson the hunter gatherer has made us a team that cant be rolled over so easily. Big Tom keeping possesion and working hard to close players down as playing it simple when needed.

Up front scoring for fun, due to the creativity from the all areas.

Im so happy, its untrue and even if we stumble in the remaining games, i will be mightly proud of the team and especially what Harry has brought to us.

Exciting football and we are starting to be consistant.

Long may he last and in Redknapp we trust.

we're the joint second meanest team so far, alongside Chelsea, on 29 goals conceded, beaten only Man Utd with 24. That's good stuff. We've only conceded ten goals at home all season, 19 away. I'm surprised though, considering the number of goalscorers we've got in the team, we've not scored more

Wasn't long ago that we were notching up 3+ goals a game, so i'm dissapointed to see we're still so far behind in that department.

i haven't got the facts, so may be wrong - but I'd be amazed if in 05/06 and 06/07 we weren't plus in the goals for dept in the lge table

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have a goal difference of +28 and it's been positive all season.

DC - yeah i think they would've been positive GD.

great thing is if we end up level on points with city, liverpool or villa, we are bound to have the goal difference. currently spurs 28, city 16, pool 18 villa 11

Yes thats my point, its brillaint. Years gone by we always had a big fat 0, conceding as many as we scored.

4 out of the last 5 seasons we've had a positive goal difference come the end of the season.

We were. Our previous best season has been a GD of +15 in 05/06, so we're on course to beat that.

I would be well concerned had we not had a positive goals FOR column going into April.

Not only are we plus for goal diffrence but we now have the joint 2nd best defence with Chelsea and behind Man U after Villa's set back! we also are 4th top scorers but over 15 goals behind which is a bit worrying, if we can get a world class striker in that can do what Rooney, Torres, or Drogba does then i think we could well be up there with them!

Not really, if we end up level on points with say Liverpool, that means they would have made up the 7 pt deficit, e.g. 3 losses for us and 2 wins + 1 draw for Pool. If we lose by 2 goals each and Pool wins by 2 goals each, there goes our goal difference advantage.

From Jan 1st 2000 to Dec 31st 2009, our GD for that decade of Premier League football was just +17! +20 of that was from this season alone, so we were -3 over the previous 9 seasons combined.

Strangely, Everton came out with a GD of 0 over the decade. Utd +445 or something

yeah I was thinking that myself, although I don't wish it upon the pompey fans who are very good, we really needed a 4-0, 5-0 type of result to extend it before the run in we have, it was our best opportunity out of the remaining games, we may yet regret that second half performance against pompey

as it turned out, pool already reduced it after the 3-0 win, City has three easy games in a row, I expect them to do the same

I would say that safeguarding injuries is more important than goal difference.

I understand what you are saying, but thats like saying I better not drive a car today, I may get into a crash, so to safeguard from that I will stay home, it will get you nowhere and is a negative thought

if the other teams catch us on points, that means our goal difference has gone backwards or at best stayed the same, while they have gone the opposite way, that goal difference to pool can be gone in 2-3 weeks if that happens, you have to look at our fixtures to see we will not gain much goal difference from here on in and it may go backwards, we will gain and lose, it's worth a point, so I hold it highly

I guess you got to ask yourself this, if we lose out on 4th because of say one goal difference, how would you feel, would you look back at the pompey game where they had a makeshift defence after the injuries and think they were there for the taking and we took it too easy on them ?

Of course I would but fortunately thats the benefit of hindsight.

I do understand what you mean but conversely, if we were pushing for a 3rd goal and our players got knocks which ruled them out for the season Im not sure we would be so pleased.

If i take emotion out of the equation entirely, then this is my conclusion. Goal difference will only come into play if we drop points. If we continue winnng this is impossible. If we do drop points Liverpool/City/Villa will overtake us regardless of goal difference. So points is our main aim right now not goal difference.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you but in such circumstances where we have Cudicini, Corluka, King, Woodgate, Lennon, Jenas, and Defoe (7) out injured with Dawson, Bassong, Walker, Huddlestone, Palacios and Pavluyachenko (6) carrying knocks of some sort, is it really worth the risk when it could cause us to drop points in later games.

i think we'll win it on GD if it comes to it

it was more important yesterday to avoid injuries and suspensions -
