I was at the game yesterday, and it was by far and away the most depressing, unhappy 2 hours I've ever spent at White Hart Lane; but not because of the performance.

I was sat in the East Upper, and I was simply surrounded by ****s. I'm quite a timid person, but I completely and utterly pissed off at the idiocy of those within the vicinity.

Robbie Keane hasn't been anywhere near his best of late, nor was he yesterday. He fucking well knows that himself, I'm sure. He doesn't need hundreds, even thousands of people collectively reminding him every time he makes a mistake. "YOU'RE USELESS KEANE". "OH, GET OFF THE PITCH, ROBBIE". "I HEAR CELTIC NEED A STRIKER". Just 3 of the things I recall being hurled at our captain after the visibly unconfident striker miscontrolled near the touchline. Do you people really believe he's going to think, 'oh shit, they're right. I'll just start playing better now'?

Gomes took abuse. Assou-Ekotto took abuse. Huddlestone took abuse. Lennon, Kranjčar, and most of all Palacios took abuse.

Those around me are not supporters. They're followers. They're also ****s.

People talk shit when their frustrated.

People would be less frustrated if they actually got behind the team, resulting in better on-field performances and better on-field results.

Yup i agree. I think we are very guilty of singing when we're winning, at the lane. If only the crowd were like the one i went to chelski away with.

Expectations are higher now. That's gotta be something to do with it.

A lot of fans are still very very bitter about Keane leaving for Liverpool too, which is definitely something to do with the abuse he's getting, it's not just that he's playing poor. If they cheered him on instead of moaning we might see the old Robbie back.

As for Lennon, Niko and Palacios, Gomes and Ekotto getting abuse, three of those 5 have been excellent this season. That was Lennons worst game since Harry arrived, and Palacios has been one of the reasons for our turn around in for this year, and Kranjcar has been excellent this season.

Why Gomes got abuse yesterday, I don't know. He had one thing to do all day and that was pick the ball out of the net.

By far the least of those names, but still twice, notably by the twonk 2 seats to my left.

"YOU WANNA BE COMING OFF YOUR LINE, GOMES MATE", as a corner comes in, no where near Gomes' 6 yard box. Also, "BE NICE IF YOU OPENED YOUR MOUTH, GOMES", after Dawson had clearly ignored Gomes who had called, and headed it out for a corner anyway.

Timid

That's got nothing to do with not being timid

And it was a chain

How hasn't Gomes been excellent? He's performed far better than Palacios so far this season.

I've been a STH for 10 years now and this is the worst I've seen the crowd in those 10 years. I'm guessing it's the lofty heights of Champions League flirtation although we had that under Jol I don't remember being surrounded by so many negative miserable ****s during those times (my fellow SC'ers in block 24 not included :) ). Even at the Emirates, with the sickener of the 2 goal blast, the majority of fans turned on our team at a moment when support was most needed. It's all very well cheering as we hit the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th against a piss poor Wigan but how about a bit of a positive supportive atmosphere when we are trying to put pressure on the opposition? There's always going to be some grumpy sods about but they seem to be increasing their numbers which makes a matchday an unpleasurable experience aside from any 9-1 win (booing when 1-0 up, etc.).

Some people have nothing better to do than hurl abuse at "their team" and make shit one-liners that make a few people laugh giving that person an ego hard on

I can't think of a set of fans worse than us in the Prem when it comes to getting on the squad's back. I mean, who boos when 1-0 up?

I've been going to WHL most weeks for over 30 years. Yesterday was pretty much par for the course over the years taking into account the expectation etc

Lots of idiots turned up yesterday expecting a comfortable win, in the pub I heard predictions of 4-0, 5-0, 5-1 etc

The players pretty much came out with a similar attitute waiting for it to happen rather than making it happen

I dont think our crowd is really any worse or better than many many other groups of supporters up and down the land

I think this is total rubbish.

I don't ever recall the crowd turning on Klinsmann, Sheringham, er Defoe who seems very popular, Ardiles or any other Spurs player for this reason.

It's nothing more than a convenient excuse.

The fans need to get over Keane leaving and then coming back, once and for all.

While a player plays in a Spurs shirt we should support them

I didn't mean for it to sound like he's not been excellent. I just used those three as they have probably been our best three all season.

Defoe is a completely different situation though.

As for the crowd, I don't think it's any worse than before. Worst I've encountered was when poor Timmy Atouba was getting boo'ed everytime he touched the ball :bang:

Are you seriously considering that as abuse?

If so then every stadium across the land and probably the world has it's own supporters abusing the team!

What I will say is that the atmosphere at Spurs is nearly always pretty timid and helps the visiting teams enormously. It's a lovely place to come and play football, lovely stadium, beautiful pitch and usually quite a sedate non intimidating pretty quiet crowd.

But Palacios hasn't, he had a good first month and has been pretty poor up until the Everton game. He seems to be the fans favourite around here, so I better not say anymore.
