Andre Villas-Boas insists that Emmanuel Adebayor has a part to play in his plans for Tottenham Hotspur.
The striker is yet to start a match this season and reports this week have linked him with a move away from White Hart Lane in January.

so far this term, and Villas-Boas says he will have to be patient.
AVB denies Adebayor move

"Obviously, every player wants to play, at the moment we are using the structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News.
"I think Ade has done extremely well in the games where he has come in for the squad, certainly he is in contention for games where we play with two strikers.
"At the moment we haven't found the comfort in that formation yet, but in the future when we use it, when we rotate the strikers he will be back in contention."
When asked whether the striker was actively seeking a move, Villas-Boas responded: "No, I don't think so. I don't think the club will be willing to let anyone go."

Why are all these fucking articles so reluctant to mention that he missed about 5 or 6 games because of injury?

Also in the Evening Standard with a different headline

Andre Villas-Boas warns unhappy striker: You’re not leaving, Adebayor, but you’re not in my team either

Andre Villas-Boas today warned Emmanuel Adebayor that his frustration at being out of the side will continue but insisted he will not sell Tottenham’s highest earner in January.
Adebayor has yet to start a game this season after returning to the club on a permanent deal in the summer following a successful spell on loan from Manchester City last term.
The former Arsenal man could begin tomorrow night’s Europa League tie at NK Maribor but is likely to be relegated to the bench again at Southampton on Sunday, with Jermain Defoe in the starting XI.
Villas-Boas has persisted with a lone striker this season and Adebayor’s prospects will only improve if the manager changes that policy.
“Every player wants to play and at the moment we’re using one striker and Defoe is doing extremely well,” said Villas-Boas. “At the moment, Adebayor is in contention for games where we play two strikers.
“He’s done extremely well in the games that he has come on but we have not found comfort in a formation with two strikers yet. In the future when we rotate the strikers he will be back in contention. But I don’t think the club will be willing to let anybody go in January. Ade and I speak every day. Is he comfortable with the situation? Yes, I think so.”
Adebayor (above) is the club’s top earner and it is understood City are funding a chunk of his wages at White Hart Lane. The 28-year-old had a fine season under Harry Redknapp last year but after missing the start of the campaign through injury, he has been unable to regain his place.

If Ade is genuinely annoyed that he isn't playing and wants to leave then I'm sorry but he can go, I want committed players in the squad, for someone who didn't have a pre-season and is therefore lacking match fitness and then out with a hamstring injury for 3 weeks to be complaining that he's second fiddle to a striker who has 5 goals in 8 games is just a joke. But I don't think theres any truth in the article though.

Oh dear. From AVB’s direct quotes this does not look good. Hope I'm wrong and he's playing mind games

Most rational supporters were hoping when Ade was fit he'd be 1st choice in the loan striker role and JD would be the impact sub

I thought the biggest job of a loan striker was to hold the ball up and bring other members of the team into the game.

Given that Ade is much better than JD at this plus his goalscoring record is better this is surely a no brainier

Get him in AVB, oh and Lloris too, thanks!!!

So here we have Defoe (for all his limitations) who had a full pre-season and has been available for selection for every game and not done bad.

Then we have Ade, no pre-season, injured upon being given a fitness regime, just back for a few games, and we are supposed to believe that due to being on the bench in those games he now wants to leave...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and call this horse shit.

Well yes but hopefully, AVB is here for the long(ish) haul. He needs to create a culture that has been lacking at this for far too long. If Manu works his nuts off on the training pitch and makes it impossible for AVB to not play him, he plays. If he's just going through the motions then I back AVB 100%. Unfortunately for the wages he's on, and the financial burden that puts the club under, AVB will get that backing (if it's even neccessary for much longer) for only so long.

Complete speculation I know but something to ponder, because on talent alone and fitting the system there is no other logical reason (even one of rewarding Defoe for his excellent efforts so far would only buy him so much favour) to keep Ade on the bech for much longer. Can't actully say I'd disagree with AVB either. Talent is all well and good but the best application and commitment is even better and exactly what any club should expect from the players it pays small fortunes to each week.

Again, just rambling based on the square root of jack. Feel free to ignore.

that bit about being in contenton when we play two strikers or when he comes on as sub must be music to JD's ears! Pretty much comfirmed from the horses mouth, it's not about fitness just that JD is number one striker! (kinda depressing) but old Defoe has waited a long time to be the main man again so fair play to him.

So Adebayor has to have a blinder whenever he gets his chance, or JD suffers an injury to change the pecking order

Whilst i along with most others do not agree with AVB's comments about Ade coming in when we play 2 strikers or there is rotation. That is the public statement.

For all we know he has told Ade what he thinks he can offer the team but he needs to see the application in training (as intimated by misfit above) or when he does get on the pitch to force him (AVB) to play Ade for more minutes.

And if Ade knows that, then this statement just confirms it, and Defoe remains motivated, knowing he's got to keep working his hardest to keep Ade at bay.

Hopefully it's win-win.

But never have two strikers looked so many. Gone are the days of "we need 4 strikers, or at least 3 and a good young un"

I imagine in the near future that club Strikers will have a massive turn around in clubs, because the death of 4-4-2 appears set now, and keeping 2 let alone 3 top strikers (or not as the case maybe) happy is going to get tougher and tougher.

Another nonsense, manufactured, non-story.

Having had so much difficulty negotiating his Citeh exit, does anyone believe Adebayor is going to put himself through the whole process again withing 6 months

In regard to the quotes above: it is another case of AVB being damned no matter what he says. If he had faced hostile questioning and said he was going to install Adebayor as No. 1 immediately, he would be portrayed as weak, easily-led and easily-bullied, and, just as predictably after all the Lloris horse-sheeeee-ite only to be castigated for dropping Freidel, the minute Defoe doesn't start you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a journo (twat) spitting blood that England striker Jermaine Defoe who has done nothing wrong and is on form and has scored lots of goals and is a triffic lad, should be so cruelly and callously dropped like this
