I was a bit underwhelmed I think it was because he looked so up for it and dangerous in his cameo in the Arsenal game I thought he was going to be an Eriksen like spark when he touched the ball. He looked very average. Its just one game and I am not writing him off but it would be a lie to say I wasn't disappointed.

I don't think Lamela was spectacular last night, but then again, it took 24 games before we won with Bale in the side....
However, the important thing for me is that he didn't make mistakes, he looked comfortable when he had the ball, and he tracked back well when required, including some important tackles. Last night wasn't best game to judge him (or the team) on because quite frankly it was like a friendly kickabout.

I thought he did as well as most of the other players. He set up a goal, kept the ball well, tracked back. There were a couple of times I thought he could have hit a shot, but passed instead but that can be excused.

He didn't impress because he didn't try to. Holtby, for example, tries too hard sometimes and ends up forcing the play which leads to errors.
Lamela just played a simple, intelligent, game as he found his feet on his debut. He was also affected by Naught on who was also playing simple football to start with. Most of our play was going down the left because our attacks were being orchestrated by Rose who was playing with the confidence of a regular starter.
But Lamela's touch was superb, his ball retention excellent, and his vision in the tight areas up there with Eriksen.
Once he's between Walker and Eriksen we'll see the real deal.

Class player, though I do think he's better suited to a ACM or LWF role like in his early days.

Watching the game again right now and his movement alone is lovely to watch: he's always moving, always aware of what's around him, always wants the ball and especially wants and constantly asks for the ball to feet in tight spaces with players close by him.

The guy is total class; totally confident; full of unpredictability; deceptively strong; positive in his play and has ability 'till the cows come home.

He also likes to get into the box and threaten.

It's gonna be between him and eriksen for our player of the season.

Lets face it, if Gareth Bale had turned up and played how he has played so far for Madrid, some of ouur fans would have written him off already.

These are new players adjusting to a number of new things in a massive change in their young lives, i think we should give them at least three games till we call them shit ;)

If I was wexford I wouldn't show my face/avatar until next season. When his words are long forgotten...maybe.

I'm on my mobile so I can't see, so out of interest, just how much neg rep did his post get?

Sorry could not agree less. I think a game against a third rate team was a great chance for him. If he has pace he had lots of chances to take on the full back. He had 2 or 3 people around him because he kept drifting into the middle. He played short passes and didn't look like he wanted to take anyone on. He gave the ball away and for me the best part of he's game was tracking back.

I am not saying he was a waste of money but he would need to improve a lot. I have a feeling he will be a player for next season and Townsend will take over the right wing spot.

First full match for us and already judging him:confused: I thought he was quite exciting to watch because he is very creative and unpredictable. I like Townsend as well but often he seems to lack guile in his play, and although direct he's a bit shoot shoot shoot. When it comes off, great, but he needs to develop other sides to his game, which I hope he will do.
Getting back to Lamela there was a chance which he stretched for in the first half last night, which another time might have gone in...a half chance really. But it demonstrates that he has quick reflexes and an eye for goal. So don't write him off so early as I reckon he could go on to do great things for us:cool:

Dunno. I didn't neg it...I just found it funny....very funny.

Just watched lamela's through-ball for defoe again. The pace on it is ridiculous and he almost played it with his eyes closed.

Silly talent.

*And I must give Rose props for his effectiveness in that game...he did have loads of space to play into as they were so deep, but he penetrated well and his attitude is great.

If he's not too injured and can repeat that in the prem, consistently, I'd be happy.

If you could combine Rose's power & pace (which have increased immeasurably) and commitment with bennie's all round calmness, and skill on the ball, you would have a monster of a LB.

I can't really believe there is even a fucking debate about his first full 90minutes in a Spurs shirt. He set a goal up which got us on our way, maybe he should have put the nets up and marked the pitch out before the game??

People put far too much stock into bustling about like an idiot. He didn't mindlessly take his man on every time he got the ball, thus he was underwhelming. Such a cliche English criticism.

He was efficient and smart when he got the ball, his movement was excellent, and he linked up well with Holtby. He wasn't always dangerous (though he did create two great chances including a lovely little first time assist for a goal) but he was very good overall. Technically he's honestly insane. His control is just silly.

Can't wait until he's starting regularly in the prem. He's not as aggressive as Townsend but he makes better decisions and is a far more intelligent player.

Couldn't agree more, I'm sure he was under orders to keep it simple but he showed his vision with pass for Defoe goal.
His touch was very good, tight control but always looked for easy lay off looking for return but generally went inside when turning out may have been better option.
Found space time and again, looking for angled balls either to feet or in space ahead but midfield play was either too slow or didn't seek him out.
The guy oozes class once he's settled ...........................
