Villas-Boas has already made clear to the club that he wants a senior figure to mediate between him and the board and to take control of transfers. “We have been outlining the route ahead for what we want to do in terms of the club structures,” he said, describing his plans for Spurs in greater detail than ever before. “Hopefully the arrival of somebody else in the structure for the recruitment side, a technical director. That person that bridges the gap between manager and board and is able to be focused on the technical side of things.”

“Someone who has experience of dressing rooms, represents the club, is able to link up with players, agents, I think it’s a very important role. It probably opens a wider market and we are able to touch different players.”

Looks like the DOF will be happening and glad to see it is something he want's. I don't think the committee will be disbanded and it is another layer being added to decision making but I have been quite happy with players we have signed. Interestingly it would appear he is thinking long term.

Just reading back on it sounds like wants someone between himself and Levy to do the talking between the two.

Arnesen can fuck off.
seeing that name arnesen got my back right up! he went to chelski and did a right number on us. best he stay away. avb feels he needs this and with the way this season has gone we need to back him and so i hope we get someone he and levy can work with. (maybe even bringing some other clubs scouting notes along as well to help us on a way!)

Looking back I think we ( fans ) took the Arnesen thing a little too much to heart.

How would we react if Alex Inglethorpe was linked with a return to Tottenham to work with the youth team again?

Arnesen was only a sporting/football director. He wasn't the manager or a player. Sure he joined them bunch of twats but didnt we get £5m for him and he did the square root of eff all over there too!

I wouldn't want him back mainly because he has generally been terrible in his role since he left us.

I would feel more confident with a respected sporting director at the club than what we currently have. The current "buying committee" doesn't fill me with too much faith given the fact they generally leave the squad lopsided!

I dunno. He set us back a fair bit. It wasn't like he left at the end of the season, or in the summer. Tottenham had gone out of their way to convince him to join us, and had plans in place to develop the team with him at the heart of it. He then fucked off to one of our rivals without a second thought. Even if he wanted to come back I doubt Levy would ever trust him again. He's clearly not a man of his word, so fitted in quite nicely with the rest of the scum at that seedy little club.

Yes. You can see it from his POV. Took huge gobs of money to be a youth scout in effect. I think that makes me hate him even more though. Fuck off Fwank. Keep up the stellar work at Hamburg.

Getting someone in who has connections in the Far East wouldn't be a bad idea. Bringing attention to players not yet sounded out from Asia could be a real hit for the club. Raising the clubs profile in Asia (where next pre- season tour will take place) could start to get a larger share of this market and so more money for Enic to put into the transfer fund;)

Read all this stuff today and has filled me with so much optimism. AVB is definitely making all the right noises that I want to see from my football club so if the club back him in this I am sure it will be successful.

Who are the top 5 DOF at the moment? I really have no idea, I'd imagine the Porto one must be up there?

The only thing I would take issue about in that article is that it is kinda presenting it as though AVB has decided this and is lecturing/tutoring our poor little ignorant club about it. Levy investigated this many years ago and decided this was the way ahead. He stated specifically, when Comolli wasn't replaced and Redknapp was hired, that he was putting this system into abeyance - and largely because Mr Redknapp didn't want to work under the structure. He also, at that time, intimated that his preferred option would be to return to it at a future date. As I remember it, it was referenced several times last Summer, as well, and Mr Baldini's name was mentioned then, too.

THIS
Hate it when folk get mealy-mouthed about things like this: he was only taking a better job, he only moved, I can understand it. Fact is, Daniel Levy investigated this thoroughly, the policy was announced with great fan-fare, we were innovative, and we took the risk in adapting the system first of all the big clubs in England. Frank Arnesen was made pivotal to all our plans - the structure was explained in terms of the DoF providing continuity and direction over several years. He was allowed a lot of power, a lot of scope, made several high-level appointments, brought in a lot of young players solely on his say-so and with himself envisaged as being ultimately responsible for their development. Things appeared to be working out well - and as soon as they were, the Chavs decided they wanted some of it and he left us in the lurch. It wasn't all above board - otherwise we wouldn't have been able to force him to take gardening leave and force the Chavs to pay us hefty compensation (I think it was £7 million, actually).
He shafted us - say it for what it is!
