I said squad depletion because we haven't just lost our two best players (and I'm not even including King) but we have also lost some squad options like Kranjcar, Pienaar, Pavlyuchenko, Saha, GDS and not really gone any way to replacing them. Our team is bereft of it's two best players, but our squad is as light as it's been for some time in terms of experienced quality to call on in an attacking/creative sense.

A similar thing happened in 2008, as I pointed out at the time, and it had consequences for Ramos. I can see the same problems ahead for AVB. In both cases, not only was the squad depleted in vital areas, but there were some first team changes too. Incredibly hard for any manager to cope with whilst at the same time trying to coach a new philosophy.

Yeah, but Krankjar and Pienaar were never played, Saha usually couldn't play and nobody wanted Pav and GDS to play:eek:

A bit of a joke, but a serious point. I actually think our squad is just leaner, now.

And the biggest difference between now and your analogy with Wandery, is that unlike then, the players that have come in are nearly all premier league proven.

Naw, the mmedia is an amorphous blob of iniquity - the story will become 'AVB overcomes critics and skeptics' etc. It'll likely have a patronizing tone.

Probably. It'll be as if they never doubted him, but those morons who did should be feeling ashamed! :)

On another note, how come you've that avatar from My Neighbour Totoro?

As others have said, Rodgers, another flavour-of-the-month coach, isn't getting anything like this sort of shit.

Rodgers must thank his lucky stars for AVB. He'd be getting murdered on a daily basis if it wasn't for his deflection of the limelight

Rodgers has had harder fixtures than us, it's not long in the league until we go to Old trafford and have Chelsea visit. AVB could do with getting on the 3 point trail sooner rather than later.

With Hillsborough fall out and no Dempsey to deal with I would say Rodgers feeling the strain more than Villas-Boas

Hate to say it but my dad is one of those who falls for what the media says about Spurs, I'm sure he's not the only one. A bad result versus Reading and watch the media find anything they can to beat AVB with.

same here, he is 63 and never used the internet in his life so bases everything about Villas-Boas on what the media says

of course he never listens to me either

Hmm. They lost 3-0 to West Brom away. We drew 1-1 with West Brom at home. Direct comparison in teams, if not where we played them. However, we beat them 3-1 away last year, and even Liverpool did them 2-0 at the Hawthorns in 2011, so I'd say in that context that could be classed as an 'easy' fixture?

We then drew with Norwich 1-1 at home and lost to Newcastle 2-1 away. Can only really compare to last season, but last season we lost 2-1 to Norwich at home and drew 2-2 with Newcastle away. So we're actually on the same points as last season. Last season, Liverpool drew with Norwich 1-1 at home and lost to Newcastle 2-0 away, exactly the same points haul as we've done this season.

This season, Liverpool then drew with Man City 2-2 at home and lost 2-0 to Arsenal at home. Last season in the same fixtures they had the same points haul, drawing 1-1 with City and losing 2-1 to Arsenal. Last year we lost 5-1 and won 2-1 in the corresponding fixtures, so comparing us last season to them in both seasons, we're two points up on where they are. Let's see if we can replicate that.

If you can meander through this half-arsed analysis (stats only tell half the story, as ever), of course, what it shows is that history suggests we're doing better than them this season, as well as we did last season. Seeing as we typically struggle against the lower teams and rise to the big games as well, I really don't think you can say they've had it easier

3 games gone, not won any yet but only lost the first game of the season, I think it's too early for people to start going overboard.
