Ray Wilkins was being interviewed the other day on Talk Sport. Whether he meant to say what he did, or it just got blurted out, I don't know, and I was also astonished that the presenters (I forget whose show he was on) didn't press him for more info.

Basically he said that AVB could be seen quivering and shaking while on the touch line while he had also lost a lot of weight recently, as if the stress of the situation was getting to him.

On hearing that, I instantly felt sympathy for AVB, who to me, appears out of his depth, and unable to command the respect of the squad that a Manager should expect.

The problem for me is that whilst some of the Chelsea old guard are seriously dislikeable, Snakehouse doesn't come across as a particularly nice guy himself. (Neither does Mourinho, but then he delivers the goods and also has a charisma and style that can make you forget that he's an arrogant ****.) And if he hasn't been able to command the squad's respect, why hasn't he?

Seemed to all start going badly when Ray Wilkins randomly left the club. My Word.

Whilst AVB may be on a long term project, I'm sure it was never in the brief for Chelsea to go so spectacularly backwards.

Ancelotti was sacked after winning the league and then daring to come second. Losing out on the CL? AVB will be lucky if Roman hasn't got his mates over to douse him with a little poison.

That said, I think he could do a good job with our side. We're a young side, yet to fully reach ur peak as a team. Chelsea were already a formerly dominant team in transition.

He didn't randomly leave, he was randomly fired.

Yeah that's what I meant, but in being fired he still left the club. I think he was a good middle man between the coach and the players, whereas now you almost forget Di Matteo is the assistant manager. Had AVB got a more worldly wise assistant he may not have all these player problems.
The fact is though AVB has not experienced this scale of pressure in his managerial career and a few more years at Porto would have at least given him experience in the CL before moving on to a bigger club.

AVB had an hour interview with Portugese radio station TSF last night.

Highlights

AVB doesn't know when Abramovich patience will run out and he does fear for his job

He said he has the support of the players

He still believes in the transition at Chelsea, ie moving old guard out

He is 100% committed to his project but still dealing with player egos

And in theese last two lines you have the main problem facing any Chelsea manager, the egos of the players, espcially the old guard, who seem to constantly undermine every manager they have had since Jose.

If chelsea want to be successfull again, they need to look at what Fergies done at Utd and kick out any player that starts to believe they are bigger than the club.

agree and that is why I think AVB is the right manager for them but at the wrong time.

If AVB does get the sack and if they finish outside top 5 I think that is inevitable, and if Redknapp takes over England after the season then I wouldn't be against taking on AVB at Tottenham at all, especially with our young pacey hungry squad.

I think they need to give AVB free reign to do what he wants with transfers in the summer.

IF they sell up the majority of their squad and spend wisely they can have a young and talented team for next season, but without the chance to do this there's little point in them getting rid of AVB.

Andre Villas-Boas is preparing a clear-out of a rebellious Chelsea squad that would see almost every surviving member of Jose Mourinho's double-Premier League title-winning side exit Stamford Bridge.

Should the embattled Chelsea manager be permitted to implement the radical reconstruction project, he will attempt to move on at least 10 long-serving players this summer, according to well-placed sources.

England internationals Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard lead a list of names for whom buyers are being sought. Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Florent Malouda, acquired at a combined cost of over £60 million (Dh351m), are available for sale, as is Paulo Ferreira.

Didier Drogba and his Ivory Coast teammate, Salomon Kalou, are to be allowed to leave as their contracts expire.

Villas-Boas remains undecided whether to sell Petr Cech and promote on-loan Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to first-choice.

The manager's preference would be to cash in on Fernando Torres' diminishing value following a spectacularly unsuccessful £50m transfer from Liverpool 13 months ago, though owner Roman Abramovich is unlikely to sanction a sale.

I doubt he will get the time. Having to clear out that high volume of players show how badly the club has been run. AVB does seem out of his depth, but he is the fall guy in all of these deeper lying problems.

The problem at chelsea is the owner. I completely believe the Torres bit, considering Roman signed him.

I don't know what I want more at the mo. Roman to stay and leave them completely in the shit or for him to stay and leave them in the shit.

Interesting choice of word in AVB's post match interview talking about a couple of chances in the 1st half...." It could have helped us gain an extra emotion to be on the pitch, and extra motivation". I think "emotion" was just a mistake which he then corrects to "motivation" but WHY do these players need Motivation? Seeing Arsenal win away should have been the motivation they needed!

AVB will become a top manager, I'm convinced of that. If we lost Arry in the summer and he is available I would be delighted to see him in charge at our place.

Sounds like they're waiting for Mourinho to me.

cannot see Mourinho as a man who would go back to a team he was sacked from, too much pride

no idea who Chelsea will go for now, but whoever it is will last less than a year and end up with a huge payout
