Looking at the change (for the better) in the likes of Darren Fletcher and more recently James Milner, when brought infield from a wide position, had me wondering about our own boy wonder. Gareth Bale looks for the most part to have almost every attribute in his locker and gets better and better each and every game. Is this because he is perfect for the left wing spot or do you think he could grow into a top Centre midfield player?

I seem to remember BMJ talking about that possiblity when we first signed him, but no-one seems to have mentioned it since.

Not for now. He is playing too well on the left. Not really a time to experiment

His ankles are made of glass, no way would he survive in centre midfield.

But Stevie G was very fragile and played out wide early on, I wouldnt say to play him there yet. But wouldnt want us to miss a trick having a player so technically good wasted out wide.

Surely all the best players that make a difference play through the middle!

Touche that, but i did often wonder how good he'd be through the middle instead of Bunjevcevic or Sherwood!

Bale has everthing, and i see him picking passes long and short, driving forward tracking back....and scoring great goals....all in the middle of the park!

Just being everthing Jenas isnt!

moving him into centre midfield you will negate his best talents - pace and power. The congested centre of the park will restrict his influence.
Also,i'm not sure Bale has the vision and passing ability to really control a game (yet). Let him excel on the left as a wiger or a fullback for the moment, and later on in his career he can look to move inside.

Very good point and I would love to see Bale given a chance in CM in a few pre season games just to see what he could do.It might prove to be very interesting.

Im sure he has played CM for Wales in a game.

He got moved there during one of their games, think he was asked to play behind a lone striker... could be wrong on that part though.

But he was fantastic there, everything went through him. Was a threat every time he had the ball.

just wait til all the Bale-is-a-LB folk who get furious when anyone prefers him at LM get wind of this thread!

personally i don't like idea at all. i don't think we'll ever see him there, even if injuries force an unorthodox line-up

rather have Bentley as CM maybe bale can do a job behind a striker taking CB's back on but that would a 4 5 1 like liverpool otherwise he would just be wasted as proper CM

Most people on here thought before the Fulham game that it would be destructive to move him from left back to left midfield, so it's no wonder people are treating this with apprehension.

I think the reason why it has worked for Milner and Fletcher is because they aren't pacey enough to be truely effective wide men. Bale has the pace and is best suited to being wide, personally I like him best at left back!

You are right, they are both slow for LW but they are good in CM.
However speed in CM is a very powerful force as well and if we could possibly get the same levels of consistancy from Bale in CM that we are currently getting from him now on the left flank, this boy could be sensational.
