It really is amazing how low my confidence in us securing 3rd place has dropped since about 4.30pm on Sunday.

Bale, Parker, Walker and potentially VDV all either injured or suspended in the space of a few days since a crushing defeat to Arsenal, and prior to a massive game against the Champions...

How unlucky is that?! Definitely take a draw if we can sneak one!

Fuck that, utd can be beaten they are not the team they used to be they only have one world class player. We can still put out a strong team even with Bale and Parker out.

Chin up, fuck this defeatist talk, yeah we got hammered but so did Utd 6-1 v city and 3 nil v Newcastle.

At home we can beat anyone and its about time we give Utd a beating.

Lennon Sandro Modric Niko
van der Vaart
Saha

that best option we have for midfield but on a bad day where is the work rate there.. united cud easily by pass that midfield and totally dominate it.. im worried and i think maybe playing modric on left coming central and having livermore and sandro for extra security in there might be better option.. lennon on the right..

niko as i said is a lovely footballer but players and pacy games pass him by..plus the fact he was completely shocking last weekend but so was about 8 or 9 others just not as bad!

Sorry, it's all very fine being 'brave' but we must not be stupid.

4-5-1

If we go 4-4-2 (which given the lack of Parker would be a hearty mistake) has to be Defoe and either Ade or Saha.
We need fully fit, raring to go players right now.
I'd get Livermore in there too, the boy does have a pass in him (Man City away)...either he or Sandro could sit deep (I'd actually go for Livermore as the shield and let Sandro and Modric work together)...
Lennon must start too...and if Bale is out, nothing fucking clever, put Rose on the left and tell him to grab his fucking chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this and i would put lennon and rose either side of that three with ade up front on his own.. that looks strong midfield just need to be drilled to fucking work hard and pressure united on the ball otherwise scholes will have a field day.

Peanut on COYS:
Don't think it will be three weeks. Reckon he'll be back for Everton but got virtually no chance of playing against United.

Archie on SO:
All the players are off today. Bale was a precaution.. it will be assessesd in the morning

In a strange way I'd rather we didn't risk Bale. I know I'm being incredibly negative, but I can't see us getting much off United, with or without Bale. If he aggravated his injury and missed the next few matches it could prove costly.

Possible ITK fight between Peanut and Archie :)

Is it me, or does peanut seem to be just a little less certain on Bale than he was earlier

If Bale is out I would play Livermore in beside Sandro. We need to work harder off the ball and United will have there spells for sure.

Friedel

Walker
Kaboul
King
Ekotto

Livermore
Sandro
Modric

VDV
Ade
Lennon

Can always bring Kranjcar and Saha on if we need to change it. Front three being fluid and interchanging.

Possibily yea, I wouldn't be to displeased to see this to be honest. The only question mark I think is the how effective VDV and Lennon can be from those positions. Just because I would certainly like to see Lennon on the right more than on the left (even though I do like him switching throughout the match from time to time) but then VDV loses effectiveness from the opposite side.

I just like the balance of the team with Kranjcar in it but I understand your thinking, Pink, after watching the Arsenal game maybe containing them to some degree first will be the best course of action.

Yeah I'm not totally sure regarding that line up, all I know is that we'll have to be more solid and work a lot harder than we did at Arsenal when United have their spells in this game.

If VDV is out, you could have Kranjcar on the inside left position with Lennon on the right. I'm just praying they don't cut through us like a knife through butter if we go for jugular and set up accordingly.

Yea I feel the same really. It's at times like these where you think Man City's approach to not concede first is a good one, well, at least against the bigger teams but I guess we have to remember we were right in the chase with them also, playing the more offensive way that we do but yea, I still agree with you though and it doesn't mean we shouldn't adjust to certain occasions. I think a lot of people feel a bit cautious and almost vulnerable after the Arsenal game and it would be good to see us give a nice solid performance, one like Newcastle's against them.
