we need to go for the throat, one loss and everyone's so down. it's at the lane, we're not wigan and they're not barca. newcastle were all over them and beat them 3-0 by going 442 so i don't think we need to go with 5 defensive midfielders in the hope of scraping a 0-0.

Yea I feel the same really. It's at times like these where you think Man City's approach to not concede first is a good one, well, at least against the bigger teams but I guess we have to remember we were right in the chase with them also, playing the more offensive way that we do but yea, I still agree with you though and it doesn't mean we shouldn't adjust to certain occasions. I think a lot of people feel a bit cautious and almost vulnerable after the Arsenal game and it would be good to see us give a nice solid performance, one like Newcastle's against them.

Indeed, I just have the view that should we keep it tight at first, and suss each other out. If we went for it again being all open it could happen again, we could race into a lead and they would come right for us and we would struggle to contain them in all likelihood.

I do think we'll see a response though, whether it will be enough because its United I don't honestly know.

Which is fine if you're working like fucking trojans, which they were, their work ethic was insane that night.

I just don't think that level of work ethic is in our DNA, so for me I would go with the prudent approach.

What worked damn well was how Ameobi and particularly Ba absolutely bullied the United back line and forced them into ceding posession which was also aided by, as you say, a Trojan like midfield which harassed and disrupted Uniteds play and as such they never got anything going for more or less 90 minutes.

This is why, particularly at home and with VdV only a possibility that we will line up 442 and go for the jugular with Saha and Adebayor looked to be deployed leading the line physically - this will be a completely different game to Arsenal and I'm sure as God made green apples that we will start off the game at 100 miles an hour and really get at United early doors.

Undecided about Bale though if he's not 100%.

This is very true (but much will depend on the way Fergie approaches the game), and using Adebayor and Saha will pose them problems for sure. If we can really turn in a hard working performance all over the field and keep it going we could just come out on top.

This I am sure of and I won't be surprised if we start really well and go 1-0 up to then completely hand the initiative over to leave ourselves thinking 'what happened to the Spurs we saw at the start of the game?'

If we go 1-0 up I'd really want to see us see the game out, will be more than frustrating to see us give away another lead.

if its 4-4-2 has to be defoe with ade.

If sandro is dm he has to shield the back 4. play Lennon from the start and if Bale is out Niko on the left.

kranjcar in his best spurs position and modric/sandro in the middle?

with that team i would be very confident of good display and a victory.

Jake at rb perhaps

Walker said he felt good after a fitness test and is training today. Although for some reason our players are always injured on a Friday. I wonder what they do, if Kevin bond has left the balls in the Opel and they need to get a ball off local kids they are likely to be stabbed so maybe that's it

You all realize that playing Kranjcar on the left in a 442 is what originally got us top 4, right? He did more defensive work than Bale vs Arsenal anyways.

Er nope. Number of mins if not 90 is after his name. Name appears again for goals

I've eliminated games where he played <15 mins or cups against lower league. He made a decent contribution and I know you can only beat who is put in front of you but they weren't the most tricky of teams with the quickest of players. He simply isn't up to it against big teams. Play him on Sunday and we'll get murdered

Errr.... so who would you play there then?

Krancjar lining up on the left won't mean we get murdered. We just need BAE to actually turn up to this game.

Harry's Friday press conference:

Redknapp says Bale has a bit of a hamstring injury but 'hopefully should be okay' for Sunday.

Reports that Bale could be out for a month are 'absolutely a million miles wrong, he hasn't even got a tear. Its just a bit tight'.

Walker 'got a knock but he should be fit'. Van der Vaart's 'hopefully going to train today'. King's 'not bad'. Wait and see as usual.

Redknapp's hoping that Sandro will be fit too, given that Parker's suspended - but said Livermore's done great as well.
