Only Tottenham fans from youth we've had in the squad in recent times seems to be foreign - Edgar Davids, Teemu Tainio, Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Steven Caulker apparently is one more Arsenal fan,
and Tom Huddlestone used to support Chelsea.

Doesn't really make a difference does it?
fowler, carregar and owen were all die hard everton fans.....so what!

The likes of george graham, judas and even the great man pat jennings(lesser extent he was treated badly by us) proved that if it suits their career, they will cross the divide...i don't kid myself...

so for bale, defoe or any spurs player to have followed the scum, rather they hadn't, but is meaninglesss...its how they play for us which concerns me.

Talking of Bale, I thought his new deal that he signed over the summer had him on 50k...whats this all about:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ar...ge-pay-rise-Real-Madrid-Inter-Milan-away.html

Gareth Bale signed a new contract which is effectively a six year contract- four years- taking us to 2014 plus two more at the clubs option.
Same for Modric. Standard practice for Spurs.

Seen The Sun today? Still four pages on Bale three days after game. Two from Harry saying he is going nowhere (again), one from Steven Howard saying how he is out shining Walcott and one on page three to say he is a fan of the X Factor!

Its not to be underestimated one little bit, he's building something wonderful and you sense that others (fans/media/pundits/managers) are now starting to really twig on.

Ok we still have a lot of work to do in terms of consolidating a top four finish but Harry has an incredibile knack in getting the best out of players. Perhaps even more importantly he has managed to forge a real team spirit - and it looks like its going to be difficult to break that, given the way the players have talked to the press.

Very exciting times - and Man United can frankly do one if they think there going to disrupt this party. The big boys in the League know we are a real threat now - thats the bottam line.

This is so important...but the most important group of people, who you missed from your list, who seem to be cottoning on to this = the players.

Maybe I'm looking for something that isn't there, I dunno, but I watchedthe Citeh game last night, and their 'team-spirit factor' looked to be zero.

Players coming through now grew up in the late 90's/early 00's. There's gonna be a lot of Arsenal and Man Utd allegiances these days. But the next generation? They'll be Yids and that'll be partly down to Bale

You need to understand what people mean by "fan" no doubt Warburton is a Spurs Fan because of other factors, family maybe but if he's the same age as Bale then he had absolutely no reason to support Spurs whatsoever at school, think about it, why would he start supporting us in the 90's and early naughties otherwise?
On the other hand a kid with no particular affiliations would be bound to gravitate to Utd or arsenal wouldn't he? It's not really fandom it's the glamour and to be honest I don't blame him, however, that kind of attatchment is just preference, a passing fancy, not a true life long love affair.

Edit: Dougal just said in two lines what I took nine lines to say, how do you do that?:)

Also to remember, that these pro's are often playing football from a young age, so don't tend to get out to watch many of teh teams.

Whilst they may follow a particular team that their families follow, it's generally a loyalty to the club they play for at that current time.

Bang on my friend

If Bale had played really badly to deliberately stitch us up, I might have an issue with it. But he hasn't

He's skull f*cked the rest of Europe with a Spurs branded dildo while shouting Audere est Facere and tattooing the crest onto his forehead

All hail Bale

This is starting to become a refrain. Huddlestone, Bale, Modric, Gomes, Jenas - all have mentioned the good feeling, the sense of camaraderie in the squad within the past few weeks. It's difficult to do and has a real value that can be measured in results.

Whatever one may think of Redknapp's chronic mendacity and spin with the press, even if you think his tactical skills are weak (I don't), it's past doubt that he has a gift for welding a team together and making individual players feel good about themselves.

Add DL to that building team. He's the architect behind it all

I assume the players know!, like I said it comes out in their press interviews...

I agree though and City will struggle with that instant gratification environment they have created up there...yes they have a fabulous squad but it simply takes more than that to tick all the boxes. They just dont have a footballing soul for me, even their own players probably sense that, and the ones who don't are the complete mercenaries.

There doesn't seem to be any togetherness but the strength of their squad will see them compete with us for fourth.

Whichever team a player supported as a kid is irrelevant, once you become a professional I'd imagine a certain degree of pragmatism sets in.

How many of you here would turn down a better paying job at the Gooners?

Evactly this. Carragher and Owen were both Everton boys, Gerrard may also have been but I'm not certain. And as mentioned, we have and have had Arsenal fans who have done great jobs for us.

Crouch is a Chelsea fan as well.

Ledley is Millwall.

Defoe was Arsenal because of his hero Ian Wright.
