So Bale new contract follows without buyout clause. Wage £170k per week was THFC max. Yet their £100m valuation of Bale = wages > £280k a week

Speculating that Bale must surely sign extension now...?

time to celebrate at last?...marca throwing in the towel:

http://www.marca.com/2013/07/03/en/football/real_madrid/1372833221.html

seems like it

A statement in the Spanish newspaper Marca, a publication viewed as an unofficial mouthpiece for the La Liga side, stated that Madrid have given up on signing Bale – for now at least. -

“Real Madrid have decided to put the Gareth Bale signing on hold. After receiving yet another “no” from Tottenham Hotspur, Florentino Perez and his team have decided to call it a day and now see the signing of Bale this summer as impossible.
“Daniel Levy, the English club’s president, is not open to negotiation, and faced with such inflexibility, reaching any sort of agreement is not viable.”
It could well be part of a longer game, but bwin are convinced Madrid are right and go just 2/5 that Bale remains a Tottenham player beyond September 3rd.
Bale is 17/10 to sign for Madrid this summer, 6/1 to sign for Manchester United and 16/1 and bigger to move anywhere else.

a real clucking at straws article, especially the assumption in bold

Hugo Lloris is pleased with Tottenham’s capture of Paulinho but is unsure whether the Brazilian will get too much time to play alongside Gareth Bale.

The Welshman scored on his 23rd birthday as Spurs kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw with Swindon Town yesterday.
While the winger has participated in the club’s official kit launch, suggesting he will stay at White Hart Lane for another season, goalkeeper Lloris knows anything can happen when a players is linked with a move to Real Madrid.
“It’s nice to see him in good form,” Lloris said.
“But pre-season is long so we need to concentrate on our work. It’s good to see him but it’s just the beginning.”
On the arrival of Paulinho, the Frenchman told Sky Sports : “It’s a good thing for us to have a Brazil international in our team.
“It shows that the club is still developing and improving because we can have now some great players like Paulinho.”

From The Mirror tonight (and Ollie Holt). Worrying if true:

Manchester United are making a massive £60million bid for Gareth Bale.
Premier League champions United want Tottenham star Bale to be the first major signing of new manager David Moyes' reign.
The move for the Welshman is thought to be one of the reasons why United's vice chairman Ed Woodward is returning early from their pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.
Spurs are desperate not to lose Bale, last year’s Footballer of the Year, and have so far resisted United’s approach.
But the Old Trafford giants are keen to put the damaging publicity surrounding the future of Wayne Rooney behind them.
They know that buying Bale - who has been linked with Real Madrid throughout the off-season - would give Moyes, his players and the United supporters a huge boost.
And his arrival, as well as continued interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas and at least one other high-profile signing, would soften the blow of Rooney's expected move to Chelsea.
United have been quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, but sources close to the club say that is about to change.
There is also continuing speculation about a mega-bid to bring former favourite Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.
But the attempt to prise Bale away from Tottenham is top of the agenda, and United are prepared to smash their £30.8m transfer record to get him.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is famous for driving a hard bargain and his brinkmanship, but United are keen to seal a deal to prise Bale out of the White Hart Lane club before the start of the season on August 17.
They are aware that neighbours Manchester City have already bolstered their squad with the signings of midfielders Fernandinho and Jesus Navas and are close to recruiting forwards Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo.
And United are desperate to ensure that they give Moyes complete backing as he attempts to carry on the phenomenal success his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson delivered.

Whatever Bale is worth, you can double it before DL will contemplate selling Bale to Yanited. Or Chelsea.

Oliver Holt is just another thick **** lazily spraying out bullshit to fill copy. I guess we should have seen it coming, him being a football journalist and all.

Is it?
Because the Mirror is such a reliable source?
Or because Real Madrid would probably pay more and we wouldn't want to sell to an English club (yay, we even get to call them our rivals now :) )?
Or because Daniel Levy could probably make more from having Gareth Bale for a few seasons?
Or maybe, and this is the clincher, because Daniel Levy despises United due to Berbatov-Gate and absolutely, absolutely is the type of man to bear grudges?
United's best hope of getting Bale is via one of the Euro-leagues, probably the Spanish.

p.s. These idiotic dinosaurs just don't seem to get it, do they? United just don't get to bully clubs like they used to, they are now fighting not one but two Sugar-Daddy clubs who can outspend them at will, and we are building something, and, in Bale, we have marketing gold - Daniel Levy no doubt goes to bed with kerching signs in front of his eyes. Oh, I know, before the United-o-phobes leap out of the shades and shadows at me, hey are still playas - but things are changing and we won't be bullied anymore, and especially by an offer like that.

Can you place a bet on Bale specifically not signing for Man Utd? I wonder how the odds are compared to betting on him to stay at Spurs.
