Bale Never Considered Move

Gareth Bale has insisted he remains happy at Tottenham and did not think about leaving the club during the transfer window.

The Welshman's dazzling performances last season, especially in the UEFA Champions League, saw him linked with a move as a host of Europe's top teams sat up to take notice.

However, the speculation was put to an end before it could really intensify as Spurs announced in March that Bale had put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half-year contract.

While the future of team-mate Luka Modric stayed shrouded in uncertainty until the end of August, Harry Redknapp at least had no such concerns about losing Bale.

And the 22-year-old winger insists that Tottenham are the perfect club for him as he strives to fulfil his potential.

"I never really thought about leaving Tottenham in the summer. I just signed a new deal and I'm enjoying my football," Bale told Sky Sports News.

"I'm playing well and I'm playing regularly. The main thing for me, I'm still young, is that I want to be playing week in, week out and getting better, and I'm still at an age where I can keep improving."

Liverpool challenge

Bale admits the presence of Redknapp in the White Hart Lane dugout is one of the reasons for his contentment at the club.

"He lets all the players express themselves, and for a manager to give you that kind of licence there is nothing better," he explained.

The next challenge for Bale is to try and help Tottenham beat Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, although he is expecting a tough game against a side that has strengthened since being pipped to fifth place by Spurs last season.

"We know what they are capable of. They have beaten Arsenalalready and are going to be contenders for the top four, so we're going to have to be right at the peak of our game," he said.

Olympic target

Looking further ahead, Bale has reiterated his desire to be a part of the Great Britain Olympic team in London next summer.

The Football Association of Wales is opposed to the team, along with the Irish FA and Scottish FA, as they fear it could ultimately damage their status as individual countries within Fifa and the special powers they hold as home nations.

However, the FAW is powerless to prevent players taking part and Bale hopes to be involved.

He said: "I think you see it with the rugby. The British Lions manage to do it and still manage to keep their own identities, so I don't see any reason why it can't be sorted."

Whilst that's good to read, I'm a bit concerned that he thinks he's playing well.

I can see why Welsh, Scottish and Irish FA's wouldn't
want to lose their identity. They have been such
massive powers on the international scene for so long
it would be a shame to relinquish such a grand status.

The Olympic thing is interesting. I believe that Bale fears he will never play in a World Cup or European Championships with Wales.

On the form he's on I can't see a 'big club' coming in for him any time soon.

Not that he's playing awfully, he's just lost the magic he had in 2010.

I think he will pick up again this year, it must be pretty demoralising for a winger to keep putting in the ball only to see it missed time and time again, I think ade will put away a fair few chances this year, look at the crouch headed miss v city I don't think ade would have missed that, and it was a superb ball, it must become frustrating?!

Bale should be allowed to play in the Olympics, after all Wales are unlikely to qualify for a major global tournament and so he and other non-English youngsters are missing out. It would be great for youngsters from ALL the home nations to play and experience a tournament like this. Listening to the major tennis players speak they all value their Olympic medals as highly as any Grand Slam.

As Bale points out we have a British Lions rugby team, a British track and field team, and numerous other British sporting teams why should football be exempt from being a British Olympic team.

Football can be an ass sometimes.

he meant he did well, as overall here.

feel sorry for him, he isn't getting fair comments recently, people forget how many kicks he earns in 2nd half of the season. Sergio Ramos himself deseves at least Yellow card at the end of first half, yet the referee didn't give him a foul.

yes how dare smaller nations have any sense of pride or wish to determine their own future. perhaps if they follow the english FA's example of the past for decades they could also enjoy similar glorious achievements.

He ia allowed to play in the Olympics as is Ramsey. The Welsh FA won't sanction participation as an FA that's all, individual players have been told they can decide whether to play or not and it will not affect their international careers.

The Scottish and Irish have not said this however.

In my book it would be a result for us if Bale played in the olympics and Wales banned him from international football.

To be fair there wasn't any team bidding for him and offering him 130k a week. I hope he will say same in 2-3 seasons

its hard to think about leaving when no one actually makes the club an offer for him
