Gareth Bale says he is in favour of bringing Joe Cole to Tottenham and has urged the club to press for his signature.

Spurs and Arsenal are said to be heading the chase for the talented midfielder who is out of contract at Chelsea.

And Cole already has a link at White Hart Lane having worked with Harry Redknapp from a young age during his time at West Ham.

Redknapp has had little impact in the transfer window to date but he has made no secret of his admiration for the England midfielder, who Bale believes would be an excellent addition to the squad.

"I think he is a great player and would be a great signing for us," said Bale.

"If he did come obviously we would welcome him with open arms and he would be an important asset to the squad."

Bale believes it would be hugely beneficial to the rest of the team to have a player with UEFA Champions League experience as they prepare their assault on Europe's elite competition.

He said: "His Champions League experience would be an important asset for us. The more experience we have the better.

"A few of our guys have been in the Champions League before but for most of us it will be a new experience that we are looking forward to and if he can bring us more experience then that would be handy."

Redknapp, meanwhile, has been highly touted to take over as England boss following Fabio Capello's dismal run in the World Cup.

Bale says it is no surprise to see him linked with the role but has urged his boss to stay put.

"I think the manager should definitely stay at Tottenham," he said.

"He did a fantastic job by taking us from low down in the table to the Champions League so I really don't want him to go. Hopefully he will stay."

As for his own future, Bale poured cold water over suggestions he may switch to Serie A or La Liga, saying: "I am absolutely committed to Tottenham."

"I am absolutely committed to Tottenham."

All the rest is white noise, above is the sort of statements we want our players saying. Its a bit different to Gerrards comments regarding Roy's appointment.

Obviously he wants someone else to compete with him on the wing, as Modric and Krankjar aren't enough:whistle:

Nice picture in my local rag of Gareth Bale and some mates enjoying themselves in Oakwood theme park here in pembrokeshire. Says that he's planning on bringing his spurs team-mates there in the future! :)
