Live on Eurosport now.

Obviously Bale didn't make the FIFA/FIFPro World XI but funny that Lucio and Maicon did :)

That Brazillian woman won again.

Messi again.

Poor Xavi. You wonder what he has to do to.

Can see who voted for who here:

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/classic/awards/01/36/25/40/ballondor_award_men_player_finalx.pdf

National team captains and coaches each have a vote, plus media from each country. Skimmed through it and noticed a few slightly interesting things:

Casillas didn't vote for any of the Barca or Spanish players (picked Sneijder, Robben, and Ronaldo)
Capello picked Maicon as his #3 (I guess he didn't write in SWP or Heskey)
Mark Van Bommel voted for #1: Invalid Vote, #2: Invalid Vote, #3 Bastian Schweinsteiger
Bert van Marwijk's #1 was also invalid, wonder if they both wrote in Mark Van Bommel!

When I saw Maicon and Lucio in the team of the year I couldn't help taking myself back to the image of the entire Inter defence, including those 2, chasing hopelessly after Gareth Bale. I've honestly never seen a spurs player shred a defence so mercilessly in my entire time watching Spurs.

Lucio and Maicon have both been poor this season for their standards. It's all well and good doing great in the Champions League last season, but that's only half the year. On the basis that it should be the best players of the year, neither should've been voted for. 2 of the best players last season sure, but that's not enough.

You cant really deny Messi after the year he has had. Shame for Xavi and Iniesta but Messi is likely to win this several times in the future. In a way it all works out. Iniesta and Xavi get their World Cup winners medals, and Messi gets his Ballon d'Or to make up for the fact that Argentina will probably fail to win the World Cup with him.

I think del Bosque should have won manager of the year. Yes the treble is a magnificent achievement, but the World Cup comes round once every 4 years, and Spain had never won it before.

But it was such an awful world cup it is probably right that it didn't influence too much. It isn't as if Spain played wonderful football and smashed everyone. They were miles better in the Euros 2008.
