He will get more money at Chelsea but that was true in the summer but it didn't convince him then.
What convinced him now is that it seems they wanted him more.

Doesn't he realise that they didn't want him to play; but the Ruskie only wanted him so that we can't have him.

The issue with him is not skill, but decision making on the pitch. I'm unconvinced that he is bright enough and so will tend not to achieve his purported potential. Then, there are concerns regarding off the field exploits, and London can expose them.

Disappointed as I thought he would suit Spurs and visa versa. Under Poch I thought he would really develop as a player. Either we didn’t try hard enough to sign him or he decided on the mega bucks at Chelsea. We shall see if he has made the right decision.

I have a feeling he'll end up being the next Jack Rodwell.

Poch changed his mind and I am glad. I think he's fed up with injuries of Lamela, Rose, Dembele, Wanyama etc. He wants healthy players, risk-free. We can do better than Barkley anyway.

I don't think the money had much to do with it. I think we expected him to be fully recovered by Jan which he obviously isn't and also that Lamela has come back well and is proving his fitness. Barkley was never a CM option IMO but more competition for Eriksen, but Lamela has filled that gap. Glad we didn't risk it since I'm sure we can do better.

As always, lost interest as soon as I read "says Guillem Balague"

Seeing as he has ties with the club now he's probably worth listening to, seems like he was speaking on behalf of Pochettino, you can evidently hear the frustration.

Would have been a luxury player, in the sense that we would have bought him despite not really having a tremendous need for him.
Tbf, we had no tremendous need for Wanyama with Dier having a great season in midfield. Nor did we have a tremendous need for Sanchez when we had the best defence in the league for 2 years.

TBF, Wanyama I saw a need for and I said so at the time. And to say we didn't need Sanchez is some strange re-write of history.

You saw a need to spend £42m for a 21 year old centre back with one year's experience in a decent league when we already had Toby, Jan and Dier as first choice defenders?

A centre back for cover, sure. A highly rated prospect to develop slowly, sure. But breaking the club's transfer record on a centre back, you saw a need for that?

I talked all summer about my personal preference being prioritising the blatant need for CB and CM reinforces. It was bloody obvious. But this isn't about me, it's about the lack of similarities between Barkley and Wanyama and Sanchez trades.

I wish he didn't have ties to the club. He's fucking irritating, and, for the most part, talks about opinions and media trends not inside knowledge.

in amongst all the criticism from fans and the mayor of Liverpool, THIS is the one that will really sting.

Just read what the mayor said. How embarrassing. Those scousers really cant accept they are footballing nobodies.

Would assume there's some truth in this given Balague's closeness to the club.

Can't blame Barkley though - he knew at both clubs he wasn't a first XI player so decided to earn more sitting on the bench at Chelsea than sitting on the bench at Spurs.
