In pieces.... Distraught! And so on and so on....

However, other thank the Dembelle substitution was a little questionable I think we set up and played to the strengths we had as a team tonight... The spirit towards the end was nothing but coragious!

That's the game out of the way now the reason for my thread!

AVB went from a man that I like and want to do well to one that I respect and feel will do well and can see how he is getting the best out of players like Lennon, Bale, Dawson etc.

He was so dignified and eluded to all the positives didn't dwell on the sending in fact steered the reporter away from it. Highlighted how we have took this compition seriously and that proved we can do well in this comp and in the league and that tottenham as a club have done the country and the club proud! I mean he even spoke clearly!

Well done lads and now lets do what all really want anyway which is finish above the scum and play in champions league next season!

anyone can miss a penalty but do you ever feel confident when the bloke is in front of goal? i don't fault his workrate, just his intelligence.

That's why Man City and RM didn't keep him. Never prolific Redknapp got the best out of him.

AVB should be fired.no tactics.Been lucky up till now with results.how can he put Huddleston as pen taker. Then Adebayor you knew would miss.

The man clearly knows business - but he has just cemented my belief that he knows nothing about football - what a twat!

I was the first to say that was an obvious red card, but on that angle, Verts actually gets a tiny touch on the ball.

Is there any limit to the amount of ball you need to get to actually be considered to have got the ball?

I agree but none of the pundits seemed to want to acknowledge it!

Adebayors runup was a joke, why was he running on the spot, not a natural striker more someone to play behind a target man, never in the box and woeful finisher at time.

because he still had energy to burn after his evening stroll around the other half of the pitch..!

Really hope he finds a team who like his laid back smiley attitude, we need players who are willing to bust a gut and make things happen. And forwards who, well stay FORWARD, as in middle, you know like near their goal somewhere Ade..

Anyway, Carroll looked really decent again and Siggy has earned his place in the team. Honestly, I think Dempsey is in form at the moment too. But if Lennon, Defoe and Bale are back I'd sub on Carroll for Dembele and bring Holtby on for Parker if tired. Dempsey can come on for Defoe if it's not happening for Defoe. Hopefully everyone will be back fit for City so maybe we'll see:

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Verts Bae
Parker Dembele
Lennon Bale Siggy
Defoe

I think the lads played well, yeah I think Brad could have dealt with the cross better but when you commit to giving your second choice GK a chance in all the cup games it is to be expected surely? We know he is not going to come off his line to take control and alleviate pressure.

The squad is running on empty, just so many injuries and with so many of the fringe/youngsters on loan we have nobody to turn to.

We dont need to spend any money on a back up LB, we have Rose. Plus Naughton is a RB!
Who?
The fact that Rose went on loan and Naughton stayed says something. Naughton has played LB a lot. Rose is a LW. Naughton was actually more of a threat than BAE when he came on

for me, we have the manager now we need the chairman to back him fully this summer.

We have a few players with heaps of heart but very little football brains.

Walker, Ade, Galas the first 3 out the door. we desperatly need some quick brained players, if that makes sense lol ... I wouldnt mind Dawson staying as 3rd/4th choice but wouldnt mind him leaving either. His choice to chest the ball instead of head it away was the cause of Verts red card and is very typical of Daws, us Yorkshire men are mostly big on heart small on brains lol.

I thought Carrol was good tonight.

This is a true story. I remember missing a Pen in an important school cup final once in front of a large crowd, it was possibly the worst pen ever, real bad, worse than Ade's.

What did I do? I looked to the sky and smiled, had a little chuckle. I dunno why I did this, at the time I had a million things running through my mind and desperately trying not to burst into tears I guess, and I'm not sure I was completely in control of what I did. I think also I was partly having a conversation with myself, like 'fucking hell, how did I manage to do that?' Guess it was my way of coping and trying not to let it deflate me.

I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here, I guess that until you're in that situation you don't know how you are going to react. As I said there's a million and one reactions and things going on in your head and different people react in different ways. Some are overly devastated, some tough it out, some try and brush it off. To me he seemed to half grin and show his face, but for a split second. He didn't walk away laughing. It was probably just one of the number of thoughts/emotions, plus (I assume he does give a shit) trying to cope with it.

I agree

I spent the afternoon having the inside of my arm tattooed. It fucking killed, absolute agony. Laughed all the way through, as a way to numb the pain

It works too. Doesn't look good to others, but it works

The great times feel even better when you have experienced the hurt.

Our day will come, it just wasn't meant to be tonight. When it comes it will feel amazing.

What I don't understand on their first goal is where Naughton was going. We had just scored, had an away goal, were ahead in the tie, had silenced te crowd, so why was he taking off? Why not sit for a few minutes, kill the tempo rather than opening up a gap they exploited.

I hope the players learn a lot from tonight because our lack of sophistication at times hurt us and we were punished.

Well, that was gutting. Am proud of the lads though and thought Gylfi and Carroll were terrific. I don't remember us ever being so...plucky before.

I can't believe some of the comments i've read on this thread. I'm pretty ashamed that some of you support my team.:(

absolutely gutted, a horrible way to lose. id not blame Ade for his miss, once we missed 1st pen the pressure was always going to be on.

clumsey pass by Dembele, shame the wrong decission with the corner.

anoyed with all the short passes at freekicks, when you could get it in the area to have a chance of scoring from a setpiece.

at the end of the day Parker missing an absolute sitter in the 1st leg cost us the tie, i'm just glad we don't have to play Chelscum Sunday, cause half the team they would of played against us had a good rest today, where all our 11 would of played tonight with the extra time.

if i was Levy id divert their flight home to Dubai and give them a good rest and a team bonding holiday cause they deserve it.

This is what it's all about, boys.

1-0 up, Dempsey of all people scoring, cruising the game. Suddenly a brainfart by one of our best players and we're back to square one. 2-1 down, it's all going wrong, no chances created, we're practically out. Long ball from Thudd, AGAIN Dempsey scores!! Can you believe it?!?! We're going to the semis!! Extra time looming, this is our night! Suddenly, Vertongen headless challenge, red card. It's all gone tits up again!!

Lose on pens.

This is what it is to be us. This is the Tottenham way!

This is SPURS!

Thanks to all the players who worked their socks off, even Adebayor, I am proud of our team tonight.

I might be wrong but are things like this ingrained in the club? The near misses, the despair? I know it is what makes us who we are in a way. But it is hard to take a lot of the time. 7 penalty shoot out losses in a row? That can't be normal - for any team apart from us.

I afraid to say that when penalties began I feared the worst. I will, like most of you, always support the team. But that nagging feeling is always there and perhaps that fear permeates to the players.

Can we ever change? Or is money the only way to get out of the cycle? Man City used have this trauma (probably even worse than us) but bought their way out of it to some extent. Maybe I'm over-analysing everything but sometimes I feel as if we are cursed.

England international team.
