Does anyone know what Ferguson saw in Moyes, other than a fellow scot? Moyes was obviously a fergie pick and the regard in which he is held at united obviously led to the club accepting his choice as the right one. If their season doesn't start picking up soon, the club will live to regret not going through a standard appointment process, in which I personally think they would have ironically ended up with Moyes' successor at Everton, Roberto Martinez.

He was originally on the shortlist for a part in Trainspotting, but the producers felt that he was just a little too realistic!

Theres a few paragraphs about it in Fergies crap book. can't remember the gist of it now but a lot of it was down to him being a fellow Scot. I'll try to have a hunt and paste it in here.

...which you've read. Sorry for reminding you. Although maybe you put it down just minutes after starting...

I got a pdf version of it emailed to me in work so faced with the option of a free reading of his book or actually doing some work it seemed like a no brainer. Needless to say I was back to work shortly afterwards. Read about 50 pages or so, fucking awful book, and really poorly written by the journo he picked to do it.

For the sake of Fergie, Moyes and Manchester United football club, I hope the appointment has ALOT more to do than just being a fellow scot. Fergie actually mentioned that as a reason???? Really?

Here you go (although I haven't finished the book so there may well be more about it later on)..

"The Scotsman abroad doesn’t lack humour. David Moyes is not short of wit. In their jobs, though,
the Scots are serious about their labours, an invaluable quality. People often said to me, ‘I never see
you smile during a game.’ I would reply, ‘I’m not there to smile, I’m there to win the match.’
David had some of these traits. I knew his family background. His father was a coach at
Drumchapel, where I played as a lad. David Moyes senior. They have a good family feel about them.
I’m not saying that’s a reason to hire someone but you like to see good foundations in someone
appointed to such high office. I left Drumchapel in 1957 when David senior would have been a young
boy, so there was no direct crossover, but I knew their story.

The Glazers liked David. Right away they were impressed by him. The first point they will have
noticed is that he is a straight-talker. It’s a virtue to be straightforward about yourself. And to put one
concern to bed, there is no way I would get in David’s way. After 27 years as manager, why would I
want to involve myself on the football side? This was my time to leave that part of my life behind.
Equally David would have no trouble embracing our traditions. He was a fine judge of talent and laid
on some marvellous football at Everton when he was allowed to sign a higher class of player."

Still...

He looks like a teen version of Ferguson (irony) from Clarissa Explains it All.
