Really don't see what all the fuss was about. Has been protected by Karanka's 10 man blanket defence for the last couple of years. I get that he's got some leadership qualities, but doesn't seem enough to warrant signing him.

Such an underwhelming signing and average player that I think this rumour might have legs

Decent prospect but massively overhyped. He gives his all which is comendable and where the hype comes from but he's not particularly quick and is susceptible to a ball over the top. Quality slow players counter this with excellent positioning but from what I've seen of Gibson he doesn't have the required awareness needed for a top 6 side with a water tight defence. £25m, no thanks.

Rather go for another Dier such as Dendoncker - play as a centre back and as a defensive midfielder. He fits our mo of signing young, quality and versatile players.

Been banging that drum for a couple of years now. He'd be an great fit in our squad and has plenty of European experience considering his age

The quote says it all. "Ben Gibson: A capable replacement for Wimmer".. Replacement, but no improvement..

A player with potential and better stats than Wimmer so yes an improvement, also the vibes I get is that Wimmer wants 1st team football so happy dayz.

We also have CCV and Dier the need is minimal as noone is going to be breaking up the Toby/Jan partnership anytime soon.

Wimmer has potential, but has not had the time or continuity to show us. Gibson, if I recall was a ever present in a team that got relegated.

Getting someone who is better than Wimmer is going to be tricky.

Anyone we sign is likely to be 4th choice centre back, so finding someone who is willing to play that role and actually be an improvement on Wimmer is quite optimistic.

Then why sell him?.. He's only just signed a 5 year contract last season, so I would assume Poch saw him as an integral part of his plans and Wimmer was happy with the part he would be playing in Poch's plan

My understanding was that Wimmer was looking to move.

I agree that if he's happy to stay, then I'd rather have him than Gibson.

Don't know much about him as a player but he isn't slow. According to this he's probably in the top 10 fastest centrebacks around were we to bring him back into the premier league. And with the Potch fitness regime that would improve too....

Can he defend reliably as a cover player....no idea!

Eric Bailly, 34.84

Maya Yoshida, 34.78

Laurent Koscielny, 34.51

Christian Kabasele, 34.57

John Stones, 33.99

Virgil van Dijk, 33.92

Ben Gibson, 33.86

Michael Keane, 33.61

Didn't realise he was Steve Gibson's son lol how didn't I put that together!

(Although Gibson senior hasn't been as prominent in recent years so had forgotten about him).

Left footed and English, I'd be happy to take a punt.
