Bent hasn't just started playing in England, he has a record as long as both of your arms in scoring at the top level for 2 clubs, often without having chances created for him. To mention him in the same breath as a player that repeatedly failed to uphold the barest standards of professionalism, shows really poor thinking on your part.

Are you serious? Your statment is ridiculous.. DUCY?

Explain why Bent has been a worse professional than Zaki. Mentioning Twitter is risiible, as his future was already known at that point, it was just a question of establishing a fee, and Bent had already been in a position of getting on a flight to China to play for Spurs, then being taken off a flight, but then not signing for Sunderland. D'y see?

To be fair..

This thread was ALWAYS going to happen. Whether he went to sunderland, man u or birmingham.

Darren Bent scores goals, simple as that. He will score them wherever he plays, even if he had remained at spurs..he would have scored 12+ in the EPL alone, im sure of that.

The problem is, spurs fans were never satisfied by anything else he offered to the team, be that hold up play, passing or the ability to link up - me being one of them.

For me, he may score goals, but a lot of the times his goals can even be consolation efforts or goals that have no end result in terms of helping spurs to win the match.

He isn't a matchwinner in my opinion.

I'd expect him to score a few braces in a hot streak, then go on an extended lean spell in front of goal. He is all about confidence, also, the Sunderland style where there is little expected of him but run in behind and finish will suit him much better than ours did.

Hopefully though the add ons for Sunderland to pay will be triggered over the course of the season.

why would zhirkov leave????

and selling Bent was not a mistake - he had 2 seasons with us and simply wasnt good enough. Defoe, Keane, Crouch and Pav are far better all round players than Bent.

Whatever the Pringle says..

They might have done, and he might have been, had our defence been less creaky away from home.

I largely agree—he does what it says on the tin, scores goals, and doesn't do a great deal else. Whether that's enough in the modern game is a matter for debate, but it did get on my tits that some people wouldn't credit him even with that. And really, when the guy scores a hat-trick at the Lane and hears choruses of 'Jermain Defoe, he's a Yiddo'…

A shame, from his point of view, that he isn't called Bentov.

Really? So he didn't score the winner for Sunderland on the opening day? Or possibly for us a couple of times, last season? Can't recall if he did or not, surely he must've done. He's a goalscorer end of, that's his job and he does it well. Not brilliant by any means, but as a striker it's their job to score, he does so. Just alot of Spurs fans are fucking retarded and want a Berbatov each and everytime, not just someone who does the business and scores with minimal fuss, no, always has to be spectacular and awe inspiring. I wish the internet was around in the days of ole Jug ears, he must've got a bashing and a half. :duh:

To be fair, Bob, you've never rated him.

I did. In the 07/08 season. He struck me as Henry-esque. I was quietly optimistic. When he couldn't sufficiently fill the Berbatov shaped void in my heart I changed my mind. He's sharp and physical and a decent finisher. He should be playing NFL.

I'm one that wanted Bent to sign for us as he was a proven goalscorer at Championship, Under 21 and most importantly Premiership level. I remember him playing for Charlton against us and giving Ledley a really tough time and his work rate was really impressive.

Unfortunately his style never seemed to work for us and with our lack of creativity in midfield and his lack of ability to create chances for himself the way Keane and Defoe can, meant it was never going to work for him at The Lane. His price tag meant many fans wouldn't give him a chance anyway.

He'll have a good career at Sunderland and everytime he scores and Keane doesn't we'll have threads asking for him back.

I knew he'd do well at Sunderland (provided he does over the season) which is why i have him in my dream team. He suits Sunderlands style of play. Our build up play was too sophisticated for him. Great goalscorer who works really hard, but not much else. I was trying to remember a great goal of his this morning. Can anyone think of one? A goal that took your breath away? I cant recall one like Defoes goal agianst Arsenal in that crazy 5-4 loss. Or his goal against Boro a few years back early on in the season. And Keanes goal against Chelsea to make it 4-4. Or his skillful goal against Blackburn from the throw. I cant think of a Bent goal like those. Maybe its just bad memory, but i can only really remember good finishes inside the box. Nothing special.

Obviously a goals a goal, and i appreciate the goals he scored for us. But i'm much happier with the strikers we have. He had plenty of time to prove his worth at Spurs, but he was never able to convince us all that he was good enough. Just cos he does great atr Sunderland, it wont mean we made a mistake selling him. Afterall, he looked great for Charlton before we signed him. Thats why we splashed out on him in the first place. He suits teams like Charlton and Sunderland.

Bent scored 12 league goals for us last season. I don't see why anyone should be surprised he's started doing the same for Sunlun.

It has always been about what else he brings to the side.

I had him in my dream team too, before he got his move (assuming that he would get one)

I can remember a goal he scored against us for Charlton which was a somewhat spectacular goal, although not on the level of Defoe's against Arsenal.

Your right though, Bent really didn't score 'special' goals for us, he was more of a tidy finsiher and someone who could find the net even with a misshit strike.

Best goal in a Spurs shirt? Maybe the Man CIty away goal or his volley in the Uefa cup.

It's hard work trying to remember great goals from Lineker, too (although Lineker was a much more accomplished footballer). Having a striker who can pop up in the box for a tap-in, especially away from home, is pretty useful, though, even if he doesn't contribute a great deal else. Getting some people to acknowledge that was like drawing teeth. It just seems odd to me how we take to certain players and not to others? Enormous allowances are made for Pav, which in one way is great, given our tendency to write off players at the drop of a hat, and yet it seems to me that the widespread conviction that he'll come good this season is largely an act of faith.
