DC, check out the action of Bale for the first goal. That's against quick young defenders and not only is he quicker to the ball, he's quicker with the ball. Uses it really intelligently. The phrase 'greased weasel shit' comes to mind.

Mind, you're right about confidence and the knocks he's had must be gutting. He'll come good though. And it's great that most people now realise he's better on the wing than at LB (I also reckon he's a better support striker than a LB but then that's me being me). I think he might be the only person left thinking otherwise.

When he first came back from injury I think he had bulked up a bit and that combined with not having played a competitive game in a while affected his pace. Hopefully playing more games will help him get it back, it's obvious he doesn't naturally lack it. I think confidence is the main thing that's affected him this year, I remember one game under Ramos where he put in a poor cross at the beginning of the match and from then on couldn't get anything right in that game. In the more recent games like UEFA I think he's looked ok, not up to his standard last year but working hard and at least not the poorest on the pitch. He had a few very tame shots like the one from Hudd's long range pass so his confidence still seems to be an issue, but hopefully playing regularly at LM so he won't get crucified for defensive mistakes at LB will help.

First goal was easy for David as he was unmarked, but these matches are very different to proper EPL matches.

i love the commentary at the start of the 2nd clip:

quite clearly! it obviously had nothing to do with him not having a hope in hell of reaching it even if it had been going in.

I think you miss the commentators point, he was being sarcastic :stupid:

Great goals. I hope Bale & Bentley do stay, but i reckon only Bale will.

It's a shitty downfall for Bentley, from scoring a wonder goal at the Emirates, to scoring 2 wonder goals against Arsenal reserves. He must be wondering where it all went wrong. While Lennon is with us, i don't think he'll get a look in. Such a pity, cos on form he's a brilliant player, it's just that he hasn't been on form for us all season.

I hope he stays. He's a good character to have around by the looks of things and if he did manage to find a bit of form, he'd be quality.

The fact it's a reserve game doesn't really make the players any slower!

Well said Bomber , but I do fear that he won't be able to regain his form that we know he can get, it may just take too long and we can't afford to wait for him to improve. But lets hope that he can regain his form next season and play some quality football.

Should keep both Bale and Bentley, if we let them go they will be a success wherever they end up. If they are happy to stay and fight then keep them, we won't be able to buy 2 better players (when on form) to be squad players rather than 1st choice.

well that's not my experience Teemu - have you been to any reserve games - because when I've been I'd say the tempo was slower - ditto the games I've seen on tV

We should keep both players but have a feeling Bentley will be off in the summer cant see him sticking around after spending nearly whole second half of season on bench. Both his goals were class last night and he had quite a good game. But cant forget that he was playing against a team made up of mainly Ars*al under 18 players so would expect him to stand out. However would like to see him given run in team towards end of season. Specially as thought Lennon has been off the pace for past couple of games not sure if thats down to the injury he has been carrying.

I hope next season we will see Bale back to his best specially if BAE does decide to return to France as he said he wanted to earlier in the season. I really dont want us to sell Bale as think he has had a poor season due to our poor early season form which hit him badly lost all his confidence. Also cause he missed half a season of football last season which I think meant he was a bit of the pace at the start of the season. I still have a belief that he will become a very good player and left back in time.

Sorry I don't think you understood what I meant, or maybe I didn't understand what you meant! I mean the actual players themselves aren't any slower in the reserves. The tempo may be slower but the fact Bale outpaced two defenders in a row has nothing to do with that. Clearly first team defenders are better footballers but not necessarily faster than the reserves...

hi teemu - the tempo is precisely what i was talking about - pace is partly generated by circumstances - iin my first post I said 'I wonder if the slower speed of the reserve game disproportionately helps those two?'

the two being Bale & bentley

In that case I don't agree with or really understand your point, yes the tempo may be slower but the defenders aren't. How does the fact that the tempo is slower in a reserve game make anyone look faster than they are? Reserve team players aren't running in slow motion; Bale outpacing two defenders in a row for Bentley's first goal shows he's certainly not slow.

fine i've explained it as best as I can - just leave it that we don't agree

incidentally I never said that Bale is slow - if that's what you're implying

Anybody notice that Bentley seemed non-plussed by his goals?

He didn't exactly celebrate like the one scored in the 4-4 at the Emirates.

Bale looked good in the video, but let's not pretend this is a notable victory - it was a strong Spurs reserves against a weaker Arsenal reserves team.

2-1 is hardly going to set the record straight for those "premiership" players that played that night.

Sorry for bringing the mood down, but we need to see the likes of Bale, Bentley and Chimbonda popping 4 or 5 goals past Wenger's wizards-in-waiting.

The only positives I am taking, is that it's always good to beat Arsenal, and it would be better that they learn to lose to us now so they know how it'll be when they get older ;)
