Having a chat with my mates about football and got onto great players. Someone mentionned that England haven't had anyone great in the last decade. The likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes boast an amazing club record but due to early international retirement, being played out of position or playing in an unbalanced midfield mean none have an impressive England record.
My opinion that Beckham did more for England than any of the three above received a lot of criticism. Seaman was coming to the end of his prime and we've struggled to find a capable keeper since though Joe Hart looks like the obvious successor.
Owen started the decade really well and Rooney burst onto the scene in impressive fashion but like Owen without the excuse of injury failed to make a consistent impression.
Like is often the case it's the English defenders who deserves the most credit. They may not be popular but Ashley Cole and Rio are probably our best players over the last decade.
I'll vote for Ashley Cole and I'll leave the rest to you all to debate.
