One rumour that I remember was Le Tissier to us for about 4.5 mill I think it was, I think Hoddle was manager at the time. Apparently Le Tiss was a Yid as a kid, but he had a last minute change of heart and stayed at Southampton. Would of been a class signing, a real 'Spurs Type Player' imo. On a non Spurs vibe, Ronaldinho to Blackburn was pretty hilarious.

Think I read his girlfriend/wife didn't want to move, and we agreed to tear up a contract. Can't remember the deets, but I think it was something like that.

Some of these are way more than rumours, they were within a pen stroke of being completed.

Anyway, here's a story.

The Daily Mirror printed a big 2 page story about Spurs being interested in AZ pair Jaliens and De Cler. The Metro printed it as well and the story made it to Holland and across various websites and forums as they all followed suit. Desperate for any story that no one checked.

It was totally made up. By me and some folk on Glory-Glory. We discussed how to do it, how to set some traps and see who picked up on it - kind of as a way to out lazy papers and reporters lurking on forums.

I drafted something in English, google translated it to Dutch and posted a bogus link that apparently no one clicked because it didn't go anywhere.. but that didn't matter. Papers picked it up, ran with it over the next few days and it went everywhere. I wonder if there are any Old Skool GGers on here who remember. We had a private forum on there for contributors, it was conceived in there and then posted on the main forum. The others chimed in with scout reports and rumour stuff to keep the topic going. In the end we had to confess because some of them were getting angry, posted screenshots of the private discussion and went through the plan.

Good times. Shame on the Mirror for being such toolbags.

I remember the Fernando Morientes rumour very well as I used to fancy him and would have loved to see him in our shirt. Sky Sports News ran the story every hour, something along the lines of "Morientes open to Spurs move" I was just sitting gluded to the screen waiting for more developments

The entire day we waited for Levy/Redknapp to bring us our striker, being linked with Aguero, Rossi, Llorente, and we ended up trying to sign Philip sodding Neville and Charlie bloody Adam.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the infamous Lukaku pre-contract.

Also, before I actually signed up, and just browsed, I remember rumours that Jose was considering joining us from Porto, then he went & won the CL & Roman threw loads of cash at him. I think that was at the same time as the Torres rumours.

Remember the Daily Mail (I think) linking us with Luca Toni the year Fiorentina nearly got relegated for match fixing. The guy got 31 in 38 that season and I got absolutely obsessed, like planning his name and shirt for the next season. I was ten and believed just about anything.... nothing has changed.

Maradonna.

Maradona was a real possibility (post Ozzi and Villa) but....he developed too quickly and at the wrong time, for THFC. It was a real chance, however, to bring another Argentinian to WHL (Blame Los Malvinas lol). COYS

Just now
@Futbol_Mercado: Tottenham está dispuesto a pagar 30 millones de euros por el delantero montenegrino de la Juventus, Mirko Vucinic.

:D:woot:

How ridiculous is that. For that money Conte would drive him all the way from Turin, through France, hop on the ferry and drop him off right on Levy's doorstep, gift wrapped.

I've only been a Spurs (and in general, football) fan for three seasons now, so obviously I have to go with Falcao. I'd have gone with Mouts, but lets face it, those were more than mere rumors, but the Falcao stuff is completely laughable in retrospect :)
