6 inches is obviously ridiculous, but it wouldn't surprise me if the grass was an inch or so longer, even that would make the surface much slower and less predictable.

Don_Felipe, thanks for the links as I had no idea teams would get up to such skullduggery before the game starts. Although to be honest it shouldn't surprise me really regarding those mentioned, bin dippers, spammers and chel$ki

Teams do the same against Barca all the time but they usually overcome it. We have to learn to perform on all pitches if we're to be a great team.

It doesn't surprise me that Sam would try something like this. Unfortunately we have to accept that there will be teams who will play anti football in order to prevent us from playing. They will play every trick in the book if it gives them an advantage. The only thing you can do is adjust to the conditions and come up with the answer.
Remember Chelscum playing at home against Barca in CL during that prat Mourinhos first stint?
The whole pitch had 3 blades of grass and 4 ton of sand.
Sorted for that weekend though.
And thats just one of many reasons why I fuc#kin hate them. Unsportsman like cheating dirty bastards in everything they do.

6" longer ? Surely if it were that much longer the cameras would pick it up. It would be coming over the players boots.

Exactly what I thought, I understand the principle applied here but surely there has been some exaggeration to this story!!!

I think we should use a few of those tactics...get a genetically modified giant Cockerel to intimidate the opposition.

I just checked with my wife and she agrees with Brad. The extra 6 inches probably made a lot of difference.

I think he must have mean 6 millimetres. Normal grass length is 25-30 mm for football pitches. 6 inches is 150 mm.

Also, growing the grass a bit longer to thwart a passing team is hardly 'genius' FFS.

Watch the through ball to Ade from Lamela
It slows right up.
As someone pointed Eriksen commented on this after they game.
Little things like this give the home side advantages and could be the difference between relegation and safety.
In the EPL that's serious money.

Wimbledon used to grow the grass long towards the corners, then play the long ball into those areas. Nothing new.

Arsene Wenger wanted to dictate the length of the grass to the Arsenal groundsman who told him to fuck off.

I also heard that one team moved from South London to North London, turned their home ground into a Library and tried to bore the opposition to death rather than play football. Annoyingly, it was quite successful. But everyone hated them for it, for ever and ever. Amen.

Had my best mate, a Chelsea fan, tell me about Stamford Bridge tour he did and the crafty little things they do there too.

Apparently in the away dressing room, it's tiny, messy, lockers are put at awkward levels and the tactics board is put on the wall behind the dressing room door, so when it's open (and it has to be open in the build up before the game), you can't see it.

All part of the game I suppose, and adds another level to home and away.

Is that the groundsman who know resides at the bernabeu?

Don't know, but he was at Arsenal for years after. The board and Wenger agreed he was in charge. I might be wrong but it was usually out of our groundsman and theirs that got the awards for best pitch.
