Let's get our 40 points secured and then use the remainder of the league season for Ramos to explore his squad. Let's see Taarabt start up front with Bent, give Gunter a run of games, have a look at Pekhart and Rose, give Steed a game as AM, use The King sparingly (a given I know), find out if O'Hara has what it takes to be a first choice LM, find out if Gilberto is the real deal at LB, give KPB a run of games to see if he can grow a premiership brain, let's start a game with YK, Woodie *and* The King in an impregnable back 3.

That way we know exactly where we need to spend in the summer and keep our key players available for the EUFA games. I have so much confidence in our squad and in Ramos in-match tactics that I don't believe this is a formula for defeats, eg Derby.

We have a fantastic opportunity that Ar5e, Chelski and Manure don't have. Let's exploit that so when we come out of the blocks in August we scare the s*** out of them.

Let's not. The idea is to win games, right?

Yea, we're really going to be an attractive prospect to potential signings if we show fuck all ambition and stay in the bottom half of the league.

No reason why this was bigger than the finale we lost last time out..The Wet Spam game last
year was maybe even bigger too..:bang:

oh there is Alex :) - plenty of reasons - first it was against Chelsea - second it was at Wembley - third and perhaps most important because we lost in 2002 it was one of our last chances perhaps the last chance to save the decade trophy -wise - fourth it would have been seen by a far bigger global audience than in 2002- 6th it gave players like Keane and King the chance for a medal - 7th it might have helped us keep Berbs - who also became a legend that day - 8th it confirmed the reputation of Ramos

re West Ham - I take that point but still for me the Wembley game was the bigger - we won a trophy - we transformed the decade - it's not at all certain that had we at West Ham - that would have led to a trophy this decade - I fear not actually because good as Jol was I don't know he had trophies in him - Ramos does - and has shown it again

oh and 9th - it was Chelsea  and 10th and 11 th

I had to go and check... unless you count the Intertoto (and who's counting a competition with THREE winners each year) Wetspam, haven't actually won anything in my lifetime..... and I'm 26....

and I thought our trophy cabinet was looking a bit sorry for itself...

That's right West ham haven't won a major trophy since 1980 and never let them think the Inter Toto is a major trophy - it isn't- it's a qualifying competition for the UEFA for team not good enough to qualify directly (it's something akin to wining a play off final but not as grand a settin) as you say three teams qualified for the UEFA through the backdoor (oo er :) that season - West Ham were one of them

when they got into the competition proper they were knocked out in true West Ham style early on (though not quite as early as their home and away losing first round exit last time they went on a 'European tour')

In fact, I believe you have to go back to 1981 for the last time the Hammers made a Euro quarter final let alone come close to winning a major Euro trophy

since the Hammers last won a major trophy we've won six - which is two more than they have won in their entire 100+ year history of 'not doing that well'

Indeed there was a C19th amateur team called the Wanderers who won the FA Cup 5 times back then and so are still ahead of the Hammers in the trophy table - here's a link

http://www.krysstal.com/trophies.html

(note how far we are above them with 17 trophies)

they really are a comedy club with their delusions of grandeur that they are in some ways our rivals - their rivals ar the likes of Derby Burnley Bolton Huddersfield Preston - oh and one day they may catch that 19th century amateur team up - but the way they bottled their last final could be a long long way away :) (hopefully)

incidentally here are some teams that have won a major trophy more recently than West Ham - Oxford, Norwich, Wimbledon, Luton, Sheff Wed and Leicester

And yes I have researched Hammers a lot - coming from Essex you have to - you keep meeting them and their ludicrous claims that they are 'bigger/as big' as us - my current reply is along the lines of well for a big club etc etc and then look at what plucky little spurs have acheived - it's amazing for a small club is - giving them as many facts as they can stomach before it all starts getting embarassing/nasty/whatever (be warned kids - don't try this at home with big aggressive Hammers - just agree they are bigger than us and find new friends/acquantinces :)

whoops got a double post in there by mistake - oh and 'double' that's a word Hammers aren't acquainted with either - neve having won the league - indeed they managed third once and er that's it - I believe we've finished top three at least 10 times (not sure exactly on that one- but ayway it's way more than Hammers)

Funny how this thread has digressed into an anti-West Ham thread :-D. I guess it's hardwired into the brain of every Tottenham fan.

Trying to keep the thread on-topic, today isn't the biggest game of the season by a long shot, but I still expect us to perform and begin to show the level of consistency that is desperately needed at the club. To go and beat Chelsea at Wembley one weekend and then lose to Birmingham the next is sending out all the wrong messages as far as 'the start of something big' is concerned. If we want to be considered a top side these are the typical games where we have to go out and do a proffessional job.

I'm expecting a win today, and will be very dissapointed if we don't pick up all 3 points.

Your highlight statement I'm afraid would be typical Tottenham Hotspur and partly the reason I started the thread.

The biggest game of the season headline is excessive but I really believe the game against Birmingham City is as much an acid test as the victory over Chelski because its the first game after a much desired final result.

:) Royal Flush - yep it has to be because of the people like the one who tried to spoil Stoof's fun with his ramblings about 8 points - unfortunately there are quite a lot of West Ham fans and unsurprisingly they are very deluded about their club for the most part (probably most fans are the same :)

oh and one more thing why last Sunday was our biggest game for 17 years - it almost cetainly confirms 11 straight decades of domination over West Ham - yep that's one hundred and ten years of humiliation for the 'appy 'ammers- eleven strght decades we've outperformed them -

even in their best decade the 60s where they got 2 trophies - we got 5 - (and finished above them in the league every single season)

even in the decades we've both been trophyless (back to the 30s & 40s) our overall performance has been better than theirs - in all probablitity we owned them in the last decade of the C19th too - but even I can't be bothered to research that - two centuries of domination and counting will do me :)

hey one day I'll do that research- three centuries would sound nice wouldn't it :)

I see your point Double 0 but i disagree.

Yes we have some big games left to play this season in both the Prem and Uefa Cup, but today's is not one of them.

Still, I have a good feeling about it.

It IS a big game but biggest of the season????? No.

Its a big game in that i think it will give us an idea of how the rest of the season will go.

Will the players 'come off the gas' as we are now in europe next season or will the cup win give them a huge boost and help them kick on up the league

Oh dear. Looks like the 'gas' was switched off on Sat!!!

agreed, thats why we have a squad, to play in these 'lesser, so called easier' games.

i hate the excuse 'its wasnt our first team' well then why the fuck are these players professional then?
