I fully expect to get slated for this and to be honest I don't really care as it is only a message board.

This site is becoming frankly ridiculous. It seems that the vast majority of posters have no sense of realism.

Depending upon a result we either lurch from we're going to win the Champions League/push for the Premiership title to we're rubbish/Harry doesn't know what he is doing/the team is shit.

This morning this link appears: Was signing VdV good for us?

Has everyone forgotten just how much for years we yearned for a player like VDV who has scored 7 in 6 home games?

Defending .. simply not top 4 record

We've always been shit at defending. We have always had to outscore the opposition because that the the "Tottenham way". We're also missing two, yes two, England International central defenders.

This isn't a knee jerk thread...But! This is about Bale being sussed out. FFS, last week everyone was shitting themselves that we'd loose him and how would we simply cope with life without Monkey boy. Now 7 days later we're saying how people have sussed him etc etc. He's 21. He's in real terms only just hitting his form. He'll develop, he'll get even better.

I'm not attacking the above threads directly, more the general feel. It just seems that there is a severe lack of perspective here these days. You don't even need to come on this site to know what threads there will be after a result. If its a good win, everyone is a world beater and we're scared Fergie will buy the team. If we loose we're all shit and need to spend.

Can we just fucking relax please and wait until our strongest team is back together i.e. the end of the month and then see how we do before we start looking for the life jackets and abandoning ship.

Yep....SC loves a good old knee jerk thread mate.

To question bale after a few performances where he hasn't been a match winner is laughable.

To question whether buying a goalscoring attack minded midfielder was a good choice is laughable.

To question defensive errors isn't as laughable, we need to cut them out, but as you say, once we get players back, lets judge them then.

You're dead right. I hate all this negativity on here and slating players who are doing their best for the team, however talented or limited they are. The season's a long way from over, we've played some wonderful football, have at last some truly top drawer players and despite all the injuries are still close enough to the top to remain optimistic.

You, sir, deserve some rep imho.

I started the Bale thread. Whilst I love him, I've also said before yesterdays match that 50+million for him is OTT and acceptable money. So no I haven't been crying about how are we gonna cope without him.

Also, its a very valid argument that in the PL Bale hasn't been as good as in the Champions League.

Your right, those threads are ridiculuos. The only one with any sense of truth is the defending one, but as you say (well almost) we're missing 3 England centre halves. And we tried to remdy that by signing Gallas and Kaboul in the last year, but we wouldn't have expected them to have to play together so often.

Neither have every other player in the squad.

Threads attacking other threads bore me. It's a fan site for mouthing off after games. It's for debate, it's for disagreeing with people, it's for venting your frustrations. It's whatever the fans want it to be, regardless of what you personally think.

The amount of people who say 'vent on here if you have to, but don't boo the team', but now you're suggesting it's not fair to vent on here either? That's all it is: virtual venting. People change their opinions more often than we change our kits, it's not real, it shouldn't be taken seriously.

I'm not a big poster or a criticiser, but it's any fans right to mouth off if they want, and the majority will turn on them and put them right if needed. That's what's great about messageboards and communities like this, they're self-policing.

Frankly, this thread is more offensive to me than someone saying Bale is shit because they fell out with their wife, because it's insulting to the intelligence

Without getting into a tit for tat argument, no I'm not saying people shouldn't vent, I just feel that it should be in the correct context, not simply from one end of the spectrum to the other with no middle ground.

Finishing top 4 was immense. We are though to every other team in the league the most beatable of the top 4 teams. Teams will up their game or park the bus it is virtue of the success of last season. Plus we're trying to do it with currently a weaker team whilst juggling the Champs League.

We just need perspective that is all I'm trying to say.

It's a forum, people are gonna talk about the most current goings on, what would you suggest? Only being allowed to talk about matches from last week so we have had plenty of time to formulate opinions?

Yep....SC loves a good old knee jerk thread mate. Which doesn't mean there is no substance to the content within the threads, ironically this reaction to them is as kneejerk as the threads themselves may be.

To question bale after a few performances where he hasn't been a match winner is laughable. I don't see anyone questioning Bale, pointing out that he hasn't done much the passed few league games is not a criticism of his ability.

To question whether buying a goalscoring attack minded midfielder was a good choice is laughable. Haven't seen anyone do such a thing, the thread mentioned questions whether the positives outweigh the overall negatives of his impact on the side, ie one star player grabbing the glory balanced by a seemingly a reduced team success.

To question defensive errors isn't as laughable, we need to cut them out, but as you say, once we get players back, lets judge them then.

It's getting daft now that every thread which questions our tactics/Redknapps decisions/player performance is instantly derided as kneejerk and not thought out. A lot of valid and considered points are washed away in a tide of criticism/laugher and borderline member abuse in some cases as people simply respond to the headline and not the content of the threads.

I agree that the forum is becoming a bit boring, but that's because CL aside Spurs are not performing well nor are we getting the desired results. If you can't comment on the failings of the side then there isn't really much to discuss after days like yesterday. There are only so many dropped points in winnable games that you can take the positives from. At what point in the season will you stop and consider that some of the kneejerk threads may have had valid points?

All talk-boards are a bit ridiculous aren't they? And we're all a bit silly to spend so much time on here. I think all that happens is that from time to time we realise it.

Yeah if we start picking at the messageboard scab, the whole thing peels off pretty easily

I think it's a bit stupid to come on a football fan forum and not expect people to be posting from their hearts and as a result be prone to extremes and knee jerks.

I agree

If you don't like someone's opinion write an intelligent response pointing out why you disagree. If you can't and have to insult them then maybe you don't understand what they are talking about.

Have you read through that thread?

The guy that started it isn't questioning the signing of VDV.
Its the formation we are playing with out the right players to play it. None of our strikers can play as a lone striker and he is questioning this.

I doubt there is a football fan alive that doesn't have an opinion.

I feel that we are showing the issues from not signing a new forward in the summer, but by all accounts we did all we could for Fabiano and were not able to sign another CF better than we had.

I think that in real terms King is unlikely to ever play a real part in Spurs future and that it would be better for the team to get Dawson back and let him and either YK or SB form a lasting partnership that is only broken up due to injury.

I feel that the team hasn't gone backwards but is suffering from loosing Defoe and the goals that we would have undoubtably scored by now and Dawson's presence as well as having to wait for Modric to show some form.

People seem to think that I'm slating others (not all) for venting or having an opinion. I'm not, what I'm highlighting is others going to the extreme everytime. Its like reading posts from Captain America out of Generation Kill sometimes!
