Jean-Alain Boumsong is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. He looked decent there for Rangers back in 2004, and was supposedly pretty good in the worst big league in the world (Ligue 1). In fact, if I remember correctly, he looked pretty good. Then, Newcastle signs him for £8 million, a transfer that has had some nasty allegations following it. He looks decent for a bit, then forms the absolute worst defensive partnership I have ever seen with Titus T*****k Bramble, and even the Geordies know they have an awful footballer on their hands, and cannot wait to get rid of him. They were about ready to find someone to pay to take him off their hands.
Then Juventus come in for him. I know, they had been relegated, but it was still shocking, considering that not only had Newcastle been paid €4.8 million for this atrocious player, but that Juventus, possibly the biggest club in the world, had done it. Then, they get promoted, and I expect them to sell him for sure, but they don't, and he plays fairly regularly in Serie A. His performances are very poor, making several key errors. and once again the fans complain that he is well below standard, and cannot wait for his departure, despite the club having only one other fit center back. Time for him to finally drop to play in the Romanian second division where he belongs, right?
No. Now Lyon, another huge club, consistently in the knockout stages of the CL and winners of Ligue 1 for six or so years running, are close to purchasing him. Where can I get a job like this? And what are Lyon thinking?
