Bale wont end up as our left back. He would be perfect for our left midfield. To the people who keep saying in bold HE'S NOT A LEFT MIDFIELDER obviously haven't seen this lad play that much.
Hutton Woodgate King ........
For me that last place needs filling.

The big question. Martin saw him as a left back eventually, Juande played him there for a couple of games before he got crocked. Me, I think he will be our No. 1 LB sooner or later, possibly later; for me, his tackling isn't remotely up to scratch. Look through the stats, every top-class FB has a tackling success rate above 80%; Bale's is about 56%. Need I state the obvious?

Will it improve? Of course. It would almost certainly have improved this season if he hadn't got crocked. Nevertheless, I'd be a lot more confident if he had someone to ride shotgun for a while.

Hutton has really impressed me. I must admit i was not sure he was the answer at right back for us but he has proved already that he IS.

Looking forward to next season already

D'you mean he'd have scored a penalty? Because Chimbonda played really well at PSV...

No I don't particularly, although he probably would have.

Hutton playing would have meant Chimbonda playing LB not Gilberto at the crucial home leg - of course Hutton is better than Chimbo but it wasn't a case of either/or

You really have a bee in your bonnet about Chimbonda dont you. He may not be my favourite player either but a bit of credit where its due. Penalty aside (which he should not have taken anyway) he was one of our better players against PSV 2nd leg before we got knocked out.

I dont think Hutton would have made a difference when we lost the tie because of the first leg where Berb et al played crap.

I think Hutton would have made all the difference in the world had he played RB that night and chimbonda not Gilberto had played at left

Come to think of it you may be right DC. But my post was really aimed at those Chimbonda bashers.

Chimbonda is a consistent offender of losing concentration, getting skinned and giving away cheap goals/chances, so yea, you could say HE put the bee in my bonnet.

:) Bulletspur - I take your point that some people are going OTT re Chimbonda - he's done ok at LB - although I have to stress I missed the 4-4 as was on holiday - the summer will tell us so much more as to JR's view on PC

You are lucky, because Joe Cole took the piss out of him twice

yep Kendall I've picked up that Pascal didn't have much of a game that day - but apart from that game he's done ok at LB I think - though if others say he hasn't been I could accept that - as to whether he's good enough for next season mmmmmm

I'm currently looking for a new house in a quiet location, so imagine my disappointment when i realised this thread wasn't about a nice rural village in Essex :-(

For the third Chavski goal, Cole went past Chimbo on Chimbo's weaker, left, side. If Chimbo had been in his natural position, RB, and Cole had tried to do him on his right side, I would back Pascal to ease him out towards the goal line.

For the fourth Chavski goal, the ball was fired into Joe Cole who MISCONTROLLED it. The ball broke to a position that neither Cole nor Chimbo was anticipating, which happened to favour Cole. Cole picked up the loose ball and that was that. Although arguably Chimbo was a little too tight on Cole to begin with.

Chimbo is not a LB. But Ramos clearly thinks he's the second best FB at the club because he keeps on picking him there. In the summer with Bale & Gilberto fit, and Gunter hopefully developing fast, I have little doubt that Chimbo will be sold. Hopefully to the Barcodes for lots of money! :)
