We didn't create anything of note and more times than not would have dropped points. It's pretty simple. Having said that, we didn't get any luck against the Toon and Hammers, so this time it went our way.

are you saying it was lucky Pope didn’t save our attempt in target?

we seem to have different understanding of the meaning of “luck”.

I thought we played okay against a very determined opposition. We weren’t at our best but neither did we ever look so complacent that we deserved to lose.

it was a good 3 points. Enjoy it ffs

Pope didn’t have to make a save all night and we scored from an improvised set piece?
He had 3 saves to make and made two, vs, Lloris' 4. It was a tight game.

Also while those shots on target seem low it actually is only a little bellow the league average (though we average 6.7 shots on target a game, second only to liverpool on 6.8) and will normally translate into a 1-1 draw.

If you win a game that you don’t really deserve to I class that as lucky, it could easily have gone the other way. I’m happy we won and think we were owed that luck from previous games as I’ve send In a previous post
Why didn’t we deserve to win?

baffled.

I disagree completely. Most of what Sissoko does is quiet work off the ball, and that's why he gets picked time and time again for both us and the national team.

Holjberk picked the ball up off the back line 61 times Sissoko 23. This is the off the ball and hiding I'm on about.

He does well off the ball tracking runners (most of the time, but still better than others) and made some great challenges. But he needs to give an option to the back line, and move the ball forward ( only 12 passes forward to our attacking players)

Nothing happened in that game that was lucky for us. We scored a good goal in a tough game against a team that many big teams will struggle against this season. I think you have a different understanding on what lucky means.

We created a chance to score the goal, that's pretty much how football works, that's nothing to do with luck.

Now that was a proper Jose smash and grab 1-0 away win dogged and you could say ‘lucky’ as Burnley really deserved to win but at the end of the day we’ve come away with the 3pts.

I remember sometimes watching Chelsea under Jose and thinking how have they won that match but during the match even when they weren’t playing well they just had this sense of Inevitably because of the Jose Factor. He’s the closest thing to fergie factor, it’s just an aura. Long Long way to But if West Ham and Newcastle dropped points aren’t the results of a team who won’t be top 4 or challenging for the title, that 1-0 away win tonight most certainly was a performance of a team that can finish top 4 or something better.

Love his squad selections, love his post match pressers, so clever, love the win.

im probably not being fair. I do see your point I just do t think it applies in this game.

I thought we were “lucky” not to go into half time at Southampton 1-4 down.
I thought we were unlucky to not go 3-0 up against Newcastle.

I don’t think luck played any part in tonight’s result

‪I don’t really care about the performance today all I care about is the 3 points we won ‬

‪But I have to say Davies & Doherty as a fullback pairing is awful ‬

‪Shoutout to Sissoko tho, even though he’s a shit technically he ran like a madman in the second half. Also Kane isn’t just our best forward he’s our best defender ‬

I think that's harsh calling one of our hardest working players "a shit". In any context. I hope we put that erroneous narrative to rest.

Just saying.

If you look at it in xG terms, if you only create one "big chance" then you're reliant on 100% efficiency and that is a risky way to get a result.
I'm happy we won and we calmed the game down well after the goal and didn't give them much chance to load the box. But I didn't see any elite mentality stuff tonight, just a team struggling to break down an oburate opponent and getting a break with an improvised set piece. Great, but we need to be better than that to put together a real run at the top of the table.

They played completely different roles. It's really pointless to compare that. Sissoko has never, ever, been given the job to go deep and help the defence pass themselves up the field. It's like criticising the rhythm guitarist for not doing a guitar solo, it's just not his job. Just because he and other players are CMs, doesn't mean they have the same job description.

Thank god that that isn't Sissoko's role, he'd be crap at it.

Hmm Jose talking about not wanting to lose Davies and Sissoko... doesn’t he read SC? What the fuck does he know about football anyway?

I think he was implying that switching those two for Sergio and GLC was tempting from a speed and creativity perspective, but would be a risk due to reduction in physicality.

Which is a fair point and turned out well. I felt we could have done with GLC a lot sooner as our less creative players were dictating most of our forward momentum. But we got the 3 points in a tough fixture, so that’s all that matters! COYS

we arent going to smash everyone 3-0. you sometimes will have to grind out a win against determined teams on the road. yes, we could've lost. but we didnt. thats the good part.

He never takes responsibility. If he did he would be world class.

I get the feeling Jose will be as happy, if not happier, with that result than the 1-6 Man Utd cakewalk. Proper character shown tonight.

People need to realise that we "scraped" a 1-0 because we effectively chose to, we got the goal and then made sure they didn't get one back, we could have gone for another and may or may not have got one but we'd have certainly been less safe at the back. We got the winner and managed the game, they didn't look like scoring after that did they?

I also don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the whole squad has no black players in it. Call it unconscious bias, or whatever, but your face has got to fit there.

This comes up every now and then. All I’d say is that it is very very strange in this day and age. It can’t just be a coincidence.

drives me crazy. all he does is show up every day and do what the manager asks as best as he can.
