Bloody hell just watched MOTD and Burnley were asking for a spanking with some of that defending. We looked fantastic and great to see Sonny get a well deserved hat trick. That pass from Porro from Sonny’s last goal was top class.

By my count, NINE Spurs touched the ball uninterrupted before Sonny's goal. That is I'm a hipster ball (and I will continue to call it that, even as the mods do everything to stop us lol)

EDIT: please note: "I'm a hipster ball" is NOT what I typed LOL

this is perhaps *the most crucial* 5-second clip from the entire game

Very enjoyable highlights on MOTD. Some absolutely cracking goals and that pass from Porro was outstanding.

This must have been a good watch for the neutral. There was always something happening and no lull in this match.

Burnley were another side, like Bournemouth last week, who tried throughout to push up and come at us. Also attempted to control via possession, play out from the back, and play their way through us. Ultimately they couldn’t manage to go toe-to-toe with us over 90 mins, and the approach did contribute to their own downfall a bit, but for a good part of the match they did make things uncomfortable for us.

To be quite frank, I thought the opening 20-25 mins, even after getting it back to 1-1, were pretty rotten from us. Nothing about the performance was very convincing, and our midfield in particular seemed to get shredded every time Burnley got some settled possession beyond the initial build up. For about 10 mins from 25-35 we then finally wrestled some control, put a spell of pressure together and looked imminently like taking the lead. Then the last 5-10 mins before the break got scrappy and open again, ending with us having one last attack, forcing a set piece, some pinball, and Romero blasting home the loose ball. So 2-1, noses in front, gradually gaining the ascendency, but patchy performance and still by no means out of the woods yet.

I thought Burnley’s HT changes were absolutely bananas, and fairly key to what happened second half. I’m not sure what Kompany and co. had seen, but going to five at the back signalled retreat and all of a sudden our midfield’s life got infinitely easier. Bissouma really felt the heat first half, was constantly under pressure receiving the ball, after the break there was no press on him. Our fullbacks became the open men and out ball. With the domino effect it then becomes easier to get the ball into Maddison. Suddenly we had a real ease to work the ball through the middle third and construct play. I do think Burnley fucked themselves somewhat, they might have gone in behind but first half their shape was fairly effective in combating us in the middle, second half we just had free rein.

Second half opened fairly nip and tuck. Then we forced a high turnover as they played out, fed Maddison in a prime position, 3-1. Even after that we rode our luck a couple of times as Burnley went down the other end, but as said our midfield now had increasingly free run, possession was becoming easier to put together, they got a bit more ragged and stretched and passive defensively, we managed to run through them for 4-1, and then put an excellent passing move together for 5. At that point we decided to wind it down, people can say it was the subs but the whole team clearly eased off and relaxed, and that was about it until they managed to get a consolation back.

All in all another good win to build momentum in these early weeks. Probably not the most polished performance at times, even after netting 5 goals, but we showed again that teams come out and look to go toe-to-toe with us at their peril. We also successfully navigated the challenge today of conceding early (especially away from home) and responding to the setback, which was pleasing. I still say that fairly soon teams will surely cotton on and adapt, we will see more low block defences trying to hit us on the counter, and ask us to break them down and then we will see if we have enough intricate nous and the solutions to this…. But we shall see, that is ahead. For now, it’s been a very decent start to the season in this opening block of fixtures before the international break.

There's just a really good feel about the team and squad at the mo.
They all seem to be loving the football and enjoying their game, buzzing off the manager and buzzing with the fans.

I really didn't expect such a quick turn around but bloody hell, it's great to see.
Some real good characters in the squad now and some proper leaders, both through example and attitude.

Maddison and Bissouma, along with the likes of Romero and Son are really going to push this squad forward.
And what's best of all is that they really seem to be enjoying this new lease of life that Ange has given them.

The future's bright...

what a breath of fresh air Ange has been, truly attractive sexy football to watch, so enjoyable, not to mention the result

and a big thumbs up to Burnley who tried right to the very end and gave us a very expansive game, they play with balls more so that ability but thats to be expected from a newly promoted team, and big ups to Kompany too

great game to watch

I think this might be a tricky one. Still early days with our new system and Burnley's pressing could catch us out at the back during build-up. We rode our luck a bit with previous opponents' poor finishing, but that luck must run out eventually. Hopefully we can start the game with intensity.
Then again, what do I know?

I don't think we should underestimate the impact of the change of the "Leadership group" in our positive start to the season. There's a reason Ange is/was so keen to point it out.

Whilst Hugo and Kane deserve utmost respect for what they've done for the club (as well as Dier and Davies) they all seemed quite reserved almost introvert personalities, not exactly the most inspiring for team mates. Good pros as it were.

Now the infectious relentless positivity of Son and Madders, with Cuti as the enforcer who can also have a laugh there's a much better mix to the group in my opinion (as someone whos job its been to build teams of 12-15 people for the last 10 years.) Also speaks to the added maturity from Cuti now he has that responsibility.

Admittedly there will be better tests to come when some bad results come calling, but it is telling that they all not only scored but were 3 of the best players on the pitch off the back of the first big hiccup under Ange in the cup.

For me that points to the man management and emotional intelligence of Ange to understand the need for the change and to get that group right. It's lovely to see.

Full rerun of this on game of the day ....8 30pm 🤩
Amazing, for the first time ever, I have watched our games again and again until our next league game. Watched the United game twice, Bournemouth once, already re-watched the Burnley once.

With the international break, I will be rewatching it games again 😜.

I am loving our football 🤩🤩

Clearly still a work in progress, but my goodness, the improvement in our play from last season is unbelievable.
