zidane was gracefull with the ball as if it was a part of him. His touch and style was beyond anyone.

the word "Effortless" is a great word to describe him.

Attacking wise, ronaldo is better but sheer ability, Zidane was untouchable.

I am not so sure

ZZ was a zen master where football's concerned, as I think we've agreed before. Pure economy of movement in every part of his body, nothing wasted. Ronaldo's not there yet. He can be though.

Zidane was one of the best, or the best, in terms of technique and control, but did he have anything else over Ronaldo? He certainly didn't have anything like as much pace, and I don't think he was ever a goal machine like Ronaldo appears to be. Did he ever get as involved in games and be as influencial as Ronaldo?

Ronaldo may be more effective, but Zidane was more beautiful to watch.

Fair?

His job wasn't to be a goal machine, it was to run the midfield when his team were in possession. And he was awesome. Ronaldo does things that make your jaw drop and make you go 'how did he do that?', but ZZ would do things and take touches that you wouldn't even see until you saw the close-up, slow motion replay and you'd be thinking 'Did he really just do that?'

The only criticism I've ever had of Ronaldo's game is all the unnecessary tricks he used to throw in. He's largely cut them out. He makes the game look easier and easier as he matures. He's on the road to the same kind of mastery of the football as ZZ had. I think he could well surpass ZZ in years to come, and he's the most effective, and so probably the best player on the planet at the moment. I hope he proves it at the Euros.

i thought you english knew a thing or two about wit.

i'm dissapointed that nobody has pointed out that two of my first krkic/c. ronaldo posts looked a lot like flatters ones about zidane/c.ronaldo.

at the moment he is miles clear the best in the world.

of all time, i rank zidane 1st then ronaldo perhaps 2nd.

ronaldinho in his prime could match ronaldo 2nd.

you have to realise zidane wasn't all flash. he simply made all the correct passes precisely when and where the best place to pass was, and set up a lot of goals and decent attacks. technical mastermind and played like he had eyes in the back of his head, sides of head etc

then tehre are players like pele who are from so far back not many of us can really judge or compare

how about the likes of maradona, maldini, mattheus, van basten, gullit, platini, papin, rivaldo, romario and ronaldo?

i can name even more 'recently retired' players who have achieved more over their career than c. ronaldo has done now.

because that's all he got at the moment,

a promise.

i remember robben having a few superseasons for psv before clubs like man utd. and chelsea were fighting for his signature.

he then had his first season in the epl and took your league by storm the first two seasons before his big injury and people were saying he was better than cruyff..

he sure looked like it.. but not anymore.

for the moment he is, i agree.

but to say he's "already better than zidane ever was" is ridiculous.

so he led his team to the epl title last year, how is that even in comparison to the league titles zidane led his teams let alone when he won

the world cup &
the european title

for france.

or the champion's league

for real madrid.

zidane has scored 2 goals in the final of the '98 world cup,

was named player of the tournament at euro 2000

and scored a spectacular volley in the 2002 champion's league final.

also received 3 fifa world player of the year awards which c. ronaldo hasn't won still.

None of that means anything regarding the fact that I think Ronaldo is capable of offering more to a team than Zidane ever could.

Zidane was fucking class, and Ronaldo may never be as good as him in terms of controlling the ball, but I'd much rather Ronaldo was in my team than Zidane.
