But overall, meh.
I must have watched a different match. True the US were not really threatened much - but two things stood out to me: first, was positioning, I thought CCV was very good here - always seemed to hold the shape, and not get dragged out of position. Second, was a better understanding of when to commit - I can recall in the past he went to win a ball or make a tackle when he was never going to win, and that took him out of the play, and he does not have the recovery speed to take those risks. Last night I saw him hold back on those types of play, and kept positionally sound, showing more patience.

I think he has always been pretty solid on the ball, and he was fine in that department last night.

He is not ready for Spurs yet, but I like the direction he is headed. Definitely looked improved last night, and, as others have said, a loan to a low-level PL side next year would not be out of order in his development. Or, I would not be opposed to a loan back to Ipswich next season either - maybe they can compete for a promotion spot.

ESPNFC player rating:

DF Cameron Carter-Vickers, 7 -- Extremely solid night at the back. A late (undeserved) yellow card soured what was nearly a perfect night for the 20-year-old.

highest rating of all the defenders.

Yes. He started with familiar faces in the Back line. The CB partner from US U21 games and Yedlin on his right. Can't evaluate how he did, but he looked more comfortable. He got Yellow for Shoulder-to-Shoulder on a forward, but I think the foul was because he plays in a more physical league in UK. I've had more contact walking a busy sidewalk than CCV did to this guy.

But overall, meh.
Watched alittle of the game. Saw the “foul” and it was nothing even close to a foul yet CCV got a yellow. Also saw the ref give a guy a yellow for flying into a US player studs up. Go figure.

Since they played in my neck of the woods I got to watch him and he was quite close to me the first half. Miazga was clearly the more vocal one and organized the back line with CCV deputizing some on set pieces. The yellow was quite comically soft but at that point the ref had lost a bit of control of the game and probably assumed something more malicious happened after a series of cheap fouls by Paraguay.

They hardly challenged the US line except from set pieces. His ball control was solid as was his short range passing. His long range passes mostly failed. Overall a good performance and he has improved quite a lot since the last time I saw him. Still seems a far stretch from Spurs quality. I could see him stepping up to a lower PL loan next season if that is on the cards.
From the bits and pieces I saw of the match, neither CCV or Miazga were very vocal. Trapp was the vocal one and the one doing the organizing.

Possible. Trapp may well have been more communicative but not as audible/visible to me in the crowd. Miazga yelling across the line, calling out players, and running up the pitch with his arms out was what I could visibily see happening and he did so a few times in the first half when I was parallel with the line. Other than relaying assignments on set pieces (and some decision arguments) I didn't see much from him.

First off, I am a Yank, so I Really, Really want CCV to succeed.
Second, I am not qualified to critique defenders, only observe.

But..... He did not standout. I guess, sometimes the best praise for a defender is that he was not noticed. Maybe that applies here. But he did have a yellow card, even if it was weak, but he let the Attacker out-run him.. He did turn over the ball in the defensive end that almost resulted in a goal, even if it his CB partner that made the biggest mistake.

But this was a weak, 2nd-string USA team against a weak Paraguay team. A "True" PL-quality CB would have stood out more. All this game showed was that CCV has potential, but he is not ready yet. I personally hope he makes it. And I don't think Spurs should give up on him yet.

FYI. I'm re-watching the 2nd half of the game as I type this.

I agree with the comments I see here . . . Solid . . . Good . . . .Fine . . . .positionally sound.

CCV not in the starting line-up today for Ipswich - called for a pen over the weekend - but most accounts I have seen described it as a soft pen.

Club announced over the weekend that McCarthy and his staff would be leaving the club at the end of their contracts this summer. Not sure how that affects CCV going forward.

Manager Mick McCarthy says his situation at Ipswich Town is like being in a "driverless car" and he feels "lost" prior to his exit in the summer.
The 59-year-old will end his six-year stay at Portman Road when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Asked if he was still enjoying the job after Monday's 2-2 draw at home to Millwall, McCarthy replied: "No, I'm not, I've got to be brutally honest.
"There's a little bit of me that's died, I'm not going to tell a lie."
In March, McCarthy said he would not leave before the summer despite criticism from some fans, but after meeting Marcus Evans on Wednesday it was decided a change was "in the best interest for all parties".
McCarthy, whose side are 13th in the Championship, is the longest-serving manager in the division.
"I'm doing this for my own personal pride and for the lads," McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"I've never been in a driverless car and I never want to go in one - but I would imagine it feels like how I'm feeling at the moment.
"The responsibility is mine. I'm still in charge of it but I'm not in total control of it.
"My passion for football, to be out there, to win games and to get the best out of the players is still there. But, with the situation as it is, a little bit of it has died."

At the Ipswich match Today (I was dragged along by my son because of free tickets).

2CV seemed to keep the bench dry nicely.

Grant Ward was awful, and barely bothered to move. Took no responsibility after coming on as a sub. We were right to offload, and then some.

Archer looked decent despite being beaten twice - the bundle for Ipswich Towns second was beyond anyone to make sense of.

No standout players today and not much real skill on show. A shame as the last time I was at Portman Road we saw George Boyd for Posh and he looked a class apart.

Saw this blurb in Sun article about Poch's "crisis talks" with Levy:

Tottenham have handed Cameron Carter-Vickers a new contract.

The USA defender, 20, is very highly rated by Pochettino, who will now decide whether to loan him out again next season or let him battle for a first-team spot.

Spurs could be short of a centre-back if contract rebel Toby Alderweireld, 29, leaves as expected.

I assume this is probably similar to KWP where it gives Spurs and CCV one more year to evaluate before having to make the tough decisions.

Unless we revert to a back 3, I don't see CCV displacing our current CBs. I think a PL loan would be good for him.

It's probably not wanting him to go for free more than anything. If he can replicate his ipswich form in the prem he'd be worth what £15-20m? Think he'll go on loan.
This ofcourse is if we bring in a defender to replace toby.

For me CCV is a great 4th and 5th option.

Verts, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth, CCV is a very strong group IMO.

Again for me Dier is a CB by trade and the sooner he starts focusing on that area of the pitch the better off our squad will be.

So what are the odds we have a mini meltdown coming up when Igi teases an announcement and everyone finds out it is CCV reupping? Props to him, sounds like he has done well in the Championship and earned a upper Champ or PL loan. I'd rather he get that than be our 4th or 5th option again.
