Tottenham linked with another Gers player

There could be a new team playing in the FA Premiership next season, they would be called Tottenham Rangers. Well it could happen after Spurs were linked with another Gers star.

First they signed Alan Hutton, then they were linked with Allan McGregor, now it seems they have shown an interest in Clydesdale Bank SPL and Football writer's player of the year Carlos Cuellar in a £10 million move.

After paying £9 million for Hutton, Spurs are said to be willing to put another £10 million into Rangers' bank account to secure the services of Carlos Cuellar who Rangers signed for £2.37 million from Osasuna last summer.

Cuellar has had a fantastic season for Rangers and has been an absolute rock at the back. His form has seen him scoop the Clydesdale Bank SPL player of the year award and more recently, the football writer's player of the year.

If Spurs were to land him for £10 million, and McGregor for £5 million, that would have boosted Rangers bank account to £24 million, all thanks to the big spending London club. Not a bad return for two products of the youth team and a player who cost £2.37 million.

Not for £10M.

I'd be very surprised if we paid that amount after one season costing £2.37M

What's more frightening is that in the BBC website gossip bit they are quoting a paper as saying we are looking at Anton Ferdinand.........I'd much, much rather have Cueller than Anton.

I've not been watching much of Rangers this season, but if the Fiorentina game is anything to go by, then he's a very very good defender.

The fiorentina game was pretty much a normal performance from Cuellar. He gives that level in every game.

I'd say Cuellar was well worth £10m on the couple of times I've seen him - he's way better than Kaboul for who we paid - what £8m- and he's way better than anton Ferdinand too

Cuellar was linked to Spurs yesterday "already" - not just in the papers but by BEN (and there's already a link on it).
Hard to say about Cuellar, as I believe both Kaboul and Dawson would look like "defensive rocks" had they played for either Celtic or Rangers in the PL.
Good defenders are not just those that play well when their under pressure but defends well for team that generally are not under pressure; i.e. teams that exposes the defense due to their attacking style.

rangers fan in work here says if we get him and the keeper who they call shaggy because his favourite past time is sleeping with girls and taking pics of his....eh.... crown jewels and sending them to birds he meets, that he'll become a spurs supporter. he reckons CC is quality and showed it in europe and also that shaggy is a better keeper then gordon

You mean the sort of teams that Cuellar has been cuelling (pardon the pun) in europe all season? Werder Bremen and Fiorentina are both very attacking sides, and they only managed 1 goal in 3 and a half hrs of football, a stat that King Carlos has played a huge role in securuing. Add to that the 1 goal scored by Panathiniacos and 0 scored by Sporting, you have a grand total of 2 goals conceeded in in Uefa cup this season. Even back in the Champs League, Barca couldnt score at Ibrox and then put rangers under pressure for 90 minutes, and only managed to score 2 (one of which was a shocking handball by Henry that the ref somehow missed).

I'm not sure about Cuellar for £10 million. He only cost Rangers £2.3 million from Osasuna, and they didn't have to fight off much competition from Spanish clubs.

In Europe, we've all seen the extremely defensive formation Rangers have played, and this has enabled players like the 37-year-old David Weir to look comfortable.

Cuellar looks very positionally sound and a good reader of the game, but I don't think he's lightning fast. In fact he looks exactly like the player we thought Rocha was going to be, and Ricardo hasn't got anywhere near a first team start under Ramos.

£4 million for Cuellar? Yes. £10 million? Not for me.

I'd rather have Cuellar than Anton Ferdinand though. If the rumour about young Danny Rose getting a dressing-down for his gangsta wannabe lifestyle from Ramos are true, then the last thing we need is a Baby Bentley bling bling **** like Ferdinand Jr at the club...
