A bit gutted to be honest. I really expected Caulker to be with us for years. I thought he would be a first team regular in 1-2 years. Perhaps he will, but unfortunately not in Spurs.

I don't agree with the decision, but then my opinion doesn't matter and I know nothing behind this decision.

As a fourth choice centre back, £9m is decent money. But are there better fourth choice, young with potential, centre backs out there, either already at the club in the youth set up, or to buy.

I don't know.

Sad to hear he has left - but as someone who loves football its great to see a young lad take a risk and join another team to get more pitch time. Good luck to the young man!

It does seem a strange decision, a bit like Bassong. But I'm assuming that AVB must have signed off on it or at least indicated that Caulker was not likely to get considerable playing time. Perhaps Caulker didn't want to be 4th choice and had made his feelings known to the powers that be.

Thought about another way though, Caulker has just completely funded (and some) the transfer for Chadli. Who do we think was going to make more of a point-winning impact at Spurs this coming season?

We need CB cover for sure, but that is a heck of a lot of money for a cover player, especially if AVB wants players like Fryers to be able to cover multiple positions. If we can get a utility type player in who can cover the entire back 4 then it maybe makes more sense.

This came out of the blue for me. I know there was a story in a Welsh paper about a week ago but that was regarding a loan move and I thought at the worst he would get one more year's Prem experience before rejoining us.

I had high hopes for Caulker but I haven't seen enough to really know if he was going to make it.

We don't know what motivated this decision. We apparently had a similar offer for Dawson last season but turned it down once Kaboul got injured.

AVB didn't play him much in the 2nd half of the season and maybe didn't rate him that highly. Hopefully we have something solid in place to make sure we're not light at the back.

After the season we have just had I'm happy to trust AVB's decisions.

Good luck Steve. Never looked happy or settled and has now got the situation he was after and will play regularly. Good business. Now shift Dawson and let's get Chicarikatiki in and some other hot shot and then we can sort the LB posish out and get proper cover for RB.

love how things are rolling continuously this window. Feels weird for us, but not complaining one bit.

There's Cardiff's goalscorer against us. Put your mortgage on it!

Not impressed at this decision to be honest. Homegrown, potential, and despite not being first choice when all are fit, when are all our centre halves ever fit!? He would have played 20 games this season.

Hopefully we have something else lined up.

1) I sincerely hope we have a buyback clause. If not, this is ridiculous.

2) On the bright side, I think this means the manager and coaches think Kaboul is all good to go.

Really not happy by this decision, the club really needs to explain themselves for this, makes no sense whatsoever.

If the rumoured Buy back within 2 years at the same price is true it really is a win win for everyone concerned. It's like a loan deal but we have additional cash for it to reinvest now. So if he doesn't perform well we make 8m and if he does well we get him back at the age of 23 to be a regular for us if the manager thinks he is ready

I'm sure other clubs would have been interested bit none would have agreed the buy back clause. Wouldn't mind some ITKs confirming this though

Thing is if there is a buyback, he'd have to agree to the transfer. A loan this year and next he would not.

I thought he was very good for us. I cannot believe we sold him when he's still a youngster. 8-9m is a snip, he will be sold on for 15-20m in a few years time. Not been this gutted since Vdv left and I'm sure there is another player being sold to Spain soon

Wasnt going to get infront of Vert/Kaboul.

Anyone maybe thought he pushed for the move? Thinking about the World Cup coming up, makes sense seeing as he's moving back to Wales for it.

It does though. You - and I - might not agree with it, but it makes some sense. It was pretty clear that AVB wasn't convinced by Caulker this season, and Caulker naturally wanted more game time. If a team comes in with a pretty good fee for a player who isn't in your plans and who hasn't really cost you anything - of course you're going to sell him.

I think it's a mistake, but we will have more of an idea by the end of the window. If Kaboul truly is fit, and we get this kid in from Romania, and he turns out to be ace, then no worries. I think Caulker still has potential to learn, and he's homegrown with all the advantages that brings, so I'm disappointed. But I'm willing to trust the club on this, not least as it suggests that AVB and Baldini's opinion is gaining weight, that we may not be expecting a Bale windfall, and that there will be other CB options this season.

Stuck between upset and confused. Thought he'd be a big player for us for years to come.

Having said that, I now trust Andre's judgement and I can't see Cardiff being the place where he blossoms and we rue selling him.

Time will obviously tell, but hopefully we can get Chriches or someone else lined up quickly.

This is just a stupid decision by the club.

The bottom line is we would have lost nothing, absolutely nothing if we had waited a year before selling him. At 22, he wouldn't have lost any value, so there is no issue there.

We have lost a potential big talent, who was home grown (for the squad rules), was integrated into the team and acclimatised to the Premier League, happy to part of a rotated squad, and also an example for any academy talent we have.

So we get in Johnny Foreigner as a replacement. We make a couple of million. With Kaboul's knee worries and Jan out, there is a big likelihood we will be chucking in an untested player into the battle ground of the Premier League, and there is every chance it will cost us valuable points just so we can make a million or two.

Even if we had kept Caulker there was enough chance both he and the new man would have got enough game time. With no centre back talent coming through the academy we could be desperately short of options if kaboul is struggling and there is an injury or suspension.

What next? Sell Townsend? Carroll? Kane? Why even bother with a fucking academy if you prefer expensive foreign talent to fill up the squad??

Really disappointed by this decision. We did not need to mess about with the defence this year.

What you're saying about the academy is completely valid, and AVB will need to prove his compliance with what we see as 'the Spurs way' of bringing through talent.

However, this is one player we have sold. Wait until we sell others, and then be worried.

horrible move that makes no sense to me
only possibility that could justify it is if they think they have 3 versions of him in the system
or a buyback option i guess
