Don't mind this. 8 m is a good bit of money for an average player.he was never going to take us to that next level, now all we need to do is sell Dawson and get two quality cbs

How could you know that? he is only 21, king wasn't that great at that age either

You guys know football don't be blind, he doesn't fit out system... Nor does Dawson by that matter but that's a different story all together.

As poster above stated there will be another in the pipeline.

£9 million is very decent amount to recoup, he was fucking exploited several times by barely decent u21 players.

Look at it from a purely footballing perspective, not that he was a youth product or home-grown, he won't be top 4 quality (my onion not definitive), he's too slow and lacks the ability to pick up runs.

Disappointing by this, he's still at a young enough age to learn and become a much better player. He made a few errors this season but is still learning and was excellent in the air both defensively and offensively. Perhaps AVB doesn't see him as being able to fit the system. The money offered by Cardiff is very good though.

I can only imagine it's because he's asked for regular football, and is not happy to sit on the sidelines. This must be a good sign that Kaboul has gotten over his injury woes though as we wouldn't let him go if we were looking at just Dawson, an injured Vertonghen, and a not 100% Kaboul to start the season.

I expect us to get in a good young centre back in now as I'm not sure if any of the kids in the Academy can step up yet.

We should have at least kept him till late aug to let whoever comes in to bed in a bit

Yeah because teams won't want him now for the exact same reason? Illogical post.

Yeah but maybe they have more than one fit centre back. What if Daws gets a knock?
If Caulker was available on deadline day there would be a host of clubs in for him

I care more about getting our team ready for the 1st match than transfer games

He's a good CB but he looks a bit cumbersome at times and I think that's naturally due to his body build. Out of our 4 he's last choice and I don't think he wants to be that so for 9m I'd say it's a good deal.

It's not games, AVB doesn't rate him - We got offered a very good deal for him... What isn't there to comprehend.

We will bring in 1/2 more defenders as ITK has already inferred that AVB wants 4 players capable of playing CB.

My theory about Caulker: AVB tryed Zeki Fryers in Honkg Kong on CB position and realized that there are no big differences between Zeki and Steven. A bid from Cardiff came and we took the opportunity to get some money.

It's a shock but i am not overly bothered, especially if it means we needed the money (if you get me!)

Can only assume he wanted regular 1st team football and wasn't going to get it with us. I would have preferred a loan deal but it's a decent amount of cash. I'd be (happily) surprised if there is some sort of buy back clause though.

We seriously need an explanation from the club on this. Developing and selling youth, who are in the England setup, looks terrible on our club.

This is just a stupid decision by the club.

The bottom line is we would have lost nothing, absolutely nothing if we had waited a year before selling him. At 22, he wouldn't have lost any value, so there is no issue there.

We have lost a potential big talent, who was home grown (for the squad rules), was integrated into the team and acclimatised to the Premier League, happy to part of a rotated squad, and also an example for any academy talent we have.

So we get in Johnny Foreigner as a replacement. We make a couple of million. With Kaboul's knee worries and Jan out, there is a big likelihood we will be chucking in an untested player into the battle ground of the Premier League, and there is every chance it will cost us valuable points just so we can make a million or two.

Even if we had kept Caulker there was enough chance both he and the new man would have got enough game time. With no centre back talent coming through the academy we could be desperately short of options if kaboul is struggling and there is an injury or suspension.

What next? Sell Townsend? Carroll? Kane? Why even bother with a fucking academy if you prefer expensive foreign talent to fill up the squad??

Really disappointed by this decision. We did not need to mess about with the defence this year.
