Pardon me if I have missed a thread on this but I have been away for a few days so not accessed the forum. I assume Caulker didnt make the squad on saturday due to very little training with the squad? He has obviously been away with GB and then last week with England so must have only had a few days with the rest of the lads. Or have I missed the reason he was absent versus Newcastle?

Dunno, we have lots of centre backs though.
Was surprised he didn't play for the U21 when he wasn't going to even be on the bench for the first team

AVB said Verts didnt make the team because he wasnt here during the week and Kaboul and Gallas were working together in training. I guess the same goes for Caulker he went to Valencia but it seems AVB didnt want to rush and he then left again for England in the midweek

good stuff, thanks for the reply. I would expect Kaboul to be first choice with Vertonghen, Gallas and Caulker fighting it out to join them. Just worried how Caulker would take being 4th choice with limited games after the year he has had - will be a big test for AVB to keep him happy. If we are to keep Dawson then I wouldnt be against Caulker having another season on loan to get more experience under his belt. That said, AVB may rate him as a first teamer!

he was, but wasnt in the squad.

He travelled up with them (we normally take an extra player in case of injury) but was the unlucky player to miss out of a place in the match day squad

Yeh as Chrissivad says, Caulker was 19th man and was the one who didnt make the bench.

Dunno...I interpeted it more in the direction of we train specifically for our next opponents before we play them and if you aren't around for the training you ain't gonna know the specifics connected with countering that team that week myself <INSERT SHRUGGY FELLA EMOTICON>

sandro was away all summer, and the week before the game and he walked straight into the team, as he should. so there's more to it than AVB not seeing him enough in training, he just wasn't needed this time like Dawson
