How very patronising of you, ta
Wasn't meant to be patronising. I just wanted to avoid....;

YOU ARSE....WHY DO HATE HIM ETC.!!!!!!

Nothing else :)

On antoher note.....some of has said that it could be good for Robinson to be axed and then work hard to get in the team again. To be honest.....that hasn't happened yet......and it would be very interesting to see what would happen to his form when beeing left out 3-4 weeks with hard training. It could do wonders!!

If the bbc is to be believed , there was a serious row between JR and Robbo when Robbo heard he wasn't playing .

IF this is true , it's not a professional attitude from Robbo . Rested for one game and he blows his top .

Possibly this is another reason he has survived so long playing so erratically....The management were unwilling to cross a player who regarded his team position as his god given right...no matter how bad the mistakes he was making .

If this row is untrue.....I retract everything

Robbo made loads of catches last night. He caught 3 pies, 6 beers and 2 packets of chrisps

How extraordinarily original. Did it take you very long to think up that piece of hilarious drollery?

Nobody doubts he has made errors but that has magnified everything he has done and magnified the criticism in turn. Basically the whole situation is feeding upon itself and I'll speak out on that as that how I see it.

Sorry mate, even though I quoted you i wasn't really directing the post at you. And i agree about an exponential curve of criticism. Once people start looking for something, they start finding it everywhere. It's human nature I suppose.

In Robbo's case though, i think that when you strip away the unfairness and inherent bias you'll still find a keeper short on confidence and form and deserving of being dropped. In fact I think he should have been dropped a long time ago.

I'm not arguing with him getting the axe, should probably have happened sooner for his own good

So we're agreed :)

Does that even make sense? If he had a sniffle you might (lamely) say he caught a cold or, if his car broke down, a bus, but do you catch pies, beer or crisps?

Not only lame, but nonsensical :duh:

When you've seen the likes of Ted Ditchburn, Bert Trautmann, Bill Brown, Pat Jennings, Peter Bonetti, Peter Shilton, Ron Springett, Gordon Banks, Lev Yashin, etc. play in your lifetime, you know that neither Robinson nor Cerny are the best - nowhere near it unfortunately.

I don't think goalies nowadaways take so many risks, particularly of getting injured (remember that Bert Trautmann played the last 15 mins of a match with a broken neck!), they don't make such spectacular diving saves, they tend to punch the ball out more than trying to hold on to it and that's because the game has changed a lot and safety is much more to the fore.

I can't think of a goalie who is currently playing who is as good as those of yesteryear, sad fact. Nethertheless, we don't have the best of those that are around now and Ramos is hopefully thinking of finding a replacement (one of those "huge" changes forecast) along with some more solid defenders.

Goalkeepers nowadays are way better than they were in the past. They have to deal with a game played much faster and with footballs that swerve all over the place and travel much faster. Look at penalty kicks, when you need to place them in the top coprner to score if the keeper guess them right.

I am a fan of the Robinson of old and I do respect what he did for us when he arrived, however I don't think there can be much argument for him not to be dropped from the team at present.

Defensively we are awful. Although you defend from the front, the onus of responsibility is primarily the centre backs and the goalkeeper. The centre backs instill confidence in the keeper and vice versa. We have conceded far too many goals and it all points to a huge communication/confidence problem at the back.

Ramos is concerned with the defence which has been highly publicised. It is rumoured that Chimbonda, Dawson, Gardner, Kaboul, Stalteri, Rocha and Lee are being offed, which effectively replaces our back line bar Ledley and Bale. If you are honest, for a club who have so called Champions League aspirations, this is probably the right call.

We have already conceded 38 goals in the league. We conceded 54 goals in the league last season. This is in comparison to 38 in 05/06. Surely we should be improving on 05/06 - we didn't. Not to mention that over the last couple of seasons Robinsons decision making has been awful - coupled with our awful record of conceding from set plays means that we will never challenge for top 4.

Robinson is and always will be a good shot stopper (albeit seems to concede from distance far too regularly), but it is evident that he is hesitant at coming out and taking crosses, catching the ball and controlling his penalty area.

Cerny is certainly good backup, but is not going to replace Robbo. It certainly looks as if Robbo will be replaced in the summer but not before.

I don't know whether it is confidence, poor coaching (Hans Segers?), or bad luck, but you cannot afford to leave a keeper with low confidence to continue playing in the hope that he will come out of it - we will drop too many points.

Put Robbo in the reserves away from the attention and let him concentrate on recapturing the form from a couple of seasons back.

Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg has been linked with Tottenham in the Dutch press today.

We all know. check out the transfer forums, this is really directly linked to Robinson vs Cerny!! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Robbo would probs win with his sumo skills! But i feel more confident with Cerny in goal than Robinson, no need to hide my eyes when someone takes a shot against our keeper! or against the other keeper (JD for example)

Thinking of Cerny's impressive record of clean sheets for us and for his country, I can understand why you say this.

What a load of bollocks, football is virtually non contact with regards to keepers, you only need to sneeze near a keeper these days for the ref to blow for a freekick.

Add to the fact that keepers used to play on appalling pitches with irregular bounce and you've also forgot to remember that the size of the goal hasn't changed, but people including keepers are very much bigger than in yesteryear, ie easier to save pens when your 6ft 4 rather than 5ft 10.

There is not a keeper around today worthy of cleaning Shilton, Banks or Jennings boots.

Which backs up my opinion precisely and concisely.:hump:

Spot on N10 - I hate the way goalkeepers are permanently looking for the freekicks against them, it's ludicrous.

Didn't they used to have no gloves too? Legendary oldie keepers.

I don't know how to put this tactfully - you are talking bollocks!

Which Keepers today are better than the likes of Jennings, Shilton, Banks or Clemence? or even Bailey, Corrigan, Southgate, etc etc

Try to watch some old matches and see how they caught corners, crosses and shots. And thats when the attackers were able to challenge them too. And the ball weighed the same as a ten pin bowling ball!

sure there were some duffers back in the days (sprake springs to mind!) but I'd take any one of those mentioned above over most premiership keepers today.
