Charitable Foundation to help buy Adebayor

Just had an idea, may be wrong headed, but it was a bit of Friday morning dreaming. Now we know that Ade wont take a pay cut for the duration of his contract at Man City (how long does that have left to run?). Why should he, they were fools enough to offer it to him.

Taking this into account we can't match that wage. Even buying him on the cheap and paying him a signing on fee would be expensive, incurring a large sum of tax.

Ade has also expressed that he wants his high wage because he uses it to help people in his homeland. What if he was to set up a Charity and we donated the difference in earnings to that Charity in a non tax deductible way. Done badly this would be tax evasion, but done properly could this work? So long as Ade doesn't use the money to buy Jaguars and private jets or whatever you spend money on if the price of beer hasn't cleaned you out.

I might be misinterpreting your idea, but are you saying the club pays money to a charity fund on top of his wages? Less money would be going to the taxman, but it would still be coming out of our pockets which is really the issue - we can't afford it, especially with the FFP kicking in.

Our best bet is to give him a take it or leave it offer where he can fall into our top earners bracket and accept the pay cut. He'd probably leave it, which is fair and we'll have to find a replacement and thank him for giving his all in a very successful loan spell.

I agree with your first paragraph and disagree with your second.

He probably is in our top 5 players but more importantly he's probably, as it stands, the most important player in our side. We don't have anyone else who can link the attack and the midfield like he does and, for my money, is the reason we are able to break teams down unlike last season.

for me Modric, King, Bale, VDV, parker, sandro, walker, and kaboul are all better, and more valuable players

but i understand that Ade is also currently very important, important to the way we play beacause we have no one else. but in no way do i think we must sign him at all costs, or he is irreplaceable once the season ends

There is already a way that fans can contribute money to have good players at the club - ticket sales and merchandise.

I was never suggesting fans should contribute directly to his wages.

Basic point was: say if City sell him to us for peanuts, say £7,000,000. Then we think, well his real value is 14,000,000, stick the difference in a charitable fund to compensate the loss of earnings (as Ade claims he's sending the money home anyway) and give him a top wage here but certainly no more than Bale, VdV and Modric.

It was just a suggestion to open up debate on keeping a player that clearly suits our system. Our midfield is our most lethal weapon and Ade brings the best our of them.

We could easily play £25,000,000 and get a player that does less. Chelsea played double that (although Torres might one day come good).

I fully expect to be criticised for this but I don't rate him as highly as some of our supporters seem to.

No denying that he does have his good flashes and scores some great goals but his reactions during a game often seem slow to me and I find myself groaning and muttering, "Not again!" when he doesn't get into position quickly enough to receive a pass and that does seem to happen fairly often.

Is it just me who doesn't rate him quite as highly as other players in our squad?

I totally agree. He annoyed me against Everton a couple of times and I think he is already eyeing a summer move (and fat pay off...again) and doesn't seem as committed as when he first joined.

That was the basic point and it would only work this was part of the deal with City. We get him for very little so we can do this, gets him off their wage structure and he is unlikely to get that money anywhere else unless he wants to up sticks to China/Russia (which is a possibility).

You think City will sell to us anyway? And if they do, for peanuts?

What annoyed you? Ok he was not at his best but he played his natural game and tracked back, did not seem lazy

Obviusly he is eyeing a summer move, his club don't want him, but what makes you think he does not want to stay with us, what in his actions have suggested that?

This is true, they didn't see us as rivals when they loaned him too us. Would be funny if we win the league due to having one of their strikers whos wages they are paying though

We will see what they do in the summer not now, they have acted illogically in the past. They do need rid of him after all.

People seem to forget how hard it's been to find a striker that works for us. We now have one, although not without faults, and I think reasonable effort should be made to keep him.

If you have a team that is working it makes sense to try to keep it together.

How can we raise any more money on ticket sales ,when every game is a sell out?. Our kit distribution is shite. Outside South East, it's near impossible to buy a Spurs shirt, but Arsenal, Chavs and now City are ten a penny.

If you don't buy merchandise from the club then it's not money going to the club.

If you're finding it tough to find a shirt, here's your answer; http://shop.tottenhamhotspur.com/

Although I rate him and believe he has made a big difference to us I wouldn't be to upset if he doesn't join full time as long as we gain sone one better. I think sometimes he needs to just shoot and not faf about so much.

I'm in the Cosmic camp so to speak.
I was going to start a thread about him but it might sound a bit precious after the naffness we went through the previous 18 months.
I'd rather we bought better without having to break the wage structure, but to me if we had to pay his wages as they are fully he really isn't worth it.

If we don't sign him I hope this better player is identified and signed, sooner rather than later. Striker recruitment has not be a Tottenham strength in recent years.

as much as i love that ade gives 100% every game, his distribution and 1st touch are not those of a 100k a week player. neither does he seem to fully comprehend the offside rule. people like modric and bale should be our only players on that figure, hopefully they will be soon.

He is invaluable to the team at the moment. He is the only one in our starting XI that cannot be replaced. Our chances weigh very heavily on his shoulders. i don't mind him not scoring, because he makes spaces for other players to exploit

Adebayor is great, and instrumental to the way we are playing this season with the incredibly fluid front three who seem to interchange at will and to great effect. However, I sometimes wish he was just a bit more bloody URGENT. His little flicks and passes are often great but just occasionally when he's 6 yards out I'd like to see him get the ball out of his feet and just smack it goalwards...like Defoe but with technical ability

to be honest, I've been disappointed with Ade

6 goals in nearly half a season is not what I expected and when you consider his combined wage, he is just not worth it imo

be interesting to see if we make a move for him or just say thanks and move on

Are you seriously suggesting that fans donate money to enable a top flight club worth millions and millions of pounds to pay for a one player who wont drop his six figure a week salary to play for us? Am i the only person who finds the idea of this rather disgusting?

Darlington Football club is on the brink of going out of business, countless other clubs are in similar situations and you want me to donate money to pad out a millionaire's wallet?

Seriously?
