Chelsea have announced that Guus Hiddink will take over as temporary coach until the end of the season.

The Premier League club have also revealed that the 62-year-old Dutchman will meet the players later this week.

"The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Russian Football Union for their understanding and cooperation," said a statement.
Hiddink, who will continue to coach the Russian national side, replaces Luiz Felipe Scolari, who was axed on Monday.

The Dutchman is planning to attend Chelsea's FA Cup fifth round tie at Watford on Saturday with his first Premier League game at Aston Villa on 21 February.

The Blues currently lie fourth in the table, seven points adrift of leaders Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Hiddink said before his appointment that he only intended to help out until the end of the season.

"It's a favour for a friend," said the former Netherlands, South Korea and Australia coach, who has close ties to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

"Abramovich does so much for Russian football that I wanted to give something pack. He called me personally."

Hope not......he's a Chelsea.......remember

Will be interesting though. First time in ages that he's not an underdog so let's see what he can do.

Not really. I'd say it's more of poor management from the club.

Ranieri - No
Mourinho - Think not
Grant - Not a top coach and was a weird short time solution.
Scolari - Perhaps, but he shouldn't have had the job in the first place.

Do you think it reflects poorly on the Club? The players are supposedly split in the changing rooms too. Maybe it's a club run by the players. But we saw that situation occur closer to home with Ramos and one or two of our players.

But do you really think the reputation of Ranieri and Mourinho are worse after leaving Chelsea

Not at all - in fact both are proving the muppet management at Chelsea that they were wrong. But both Grant and Scholari's teams were run by the players I reckon. Both Managers will have been bruised by their experiences at Chelsea.

I agree

Both those appointments was a little bit nuts i say. Coaching a club is totally different than a national team and i pointed out Scolari to be a flop from day one. Especially since the russkie wants attractive football. Don't even know what to say about Grant.

Good for Chelsea that they didn't get Rijkaard anyway....they players would've eaten him alive...as they did in Barcelona at the end.
