Hhmm, now reading on Twitter that Spurs aren't willing to pay either the £31m fee nor the 100k wages. Saw that on Hotspur Related mind you so no idea where he's sourcing that from.

Suggestion is that we want Janssen and Sanabria now instead.

I'd be gutted if we dont push this deal through now but equally understand if we decide to go for 2 players for less money than the 1. All players carry a risk but reality is that Batman is a big risk at £31m, compared with VJ and AS for around 24m combined.

Must all be true if it is on Twitter

Worth remembering that OM's manager has already confirmed their owner has budgeted for Batshuayi's departure. He will be forced out, just like Payet was (who didn't really want to go to West Ham either). I am not sure how they forced Payet out. Perhaps by informing him that he'd be dumped in the reserves if he didn't go.

That's less than the amount Son went for, of course we could match it. Unfortunately, it seems Marseille want €40m.

We'd sold lots of players to have that cash in the bank at that point.

All we've got so far this year is the Townsend money, which is going on Wanyama

We've been over this already. Spurs got the funds for the right player. The fact that they don't throw money after any single player imaginable doesn't mean that the funds aren't there when needed.

This is never happening. Been here soooooooo many times and there is always one outcome. We end up with another player who nobody has really heard of.

Don't think we will pay what OM are holding out for. I reckon Juve will pitch in above what we will go to. Whilst Batshuayi may well favour us, I'm sure Juve will be a game changer. Purely guesswork, but I think Juve will bid enough to get him, perhaps not as much as West Ham, but enough for OM to deal. Could be a waiting game, if OM try and force Batshuayi to go to WH by saying it's the only offer they'll accept, see how he reacts, then if he says he'd rather stay, they'll deal with Juve.

I think if Juve's interest does firm up into a genuine bid above our valuation, we'll move very swiftly to sign both Janssen and Sanabria.

Isn't it more a case of the Euros forcing this to go down to the wire?

People can say it's dragging on and stuff but I fully expected it to be dragged out once the Euros started and we still hadn't signed him.

A fee can be agreed subject to a medical and personal terms. I'm no expert regarding the financial state of play at OM, but I believe that would be sufficient for the French FA.

Of course not, but that was never going to be the case, and OM can only hold out for that amount for so long. IF new teams(the likes of Juve) have made a move then it may have complicated things, but he has had his mind set on us for a long time I guess we will have to wait and see, won't be long though either way.

What about the £25m we were willing to spend on Berahino?
Financial circumstances change. Just because we had some money to spend then doesnt mean we have it now. And that doesnt just only go for us. It goes for every club.

But, solely focusing on Spurs here. We have a new stadium to build, new housing and transport venues to help fund, and rent for Wembley to fund. I know that ITK continues to say we have money available for the right player but you have to look at the circumstances and our transfer policy. We also have to look at all the new contracts that have been given and are yet to be announced. Any money earmarked for transfers has almost certain been added to the wage budget at this point. The increased TV money will help pay for the other £300+ million in costs that the loan wont cover. Then we have to pay back the loan plus interest. Anyone who actually expects us to spend much more than we sell right now is fooling themselves. How in the world do we suddenly have all this money to spend at the same time we have a massive stadium project going on? Levy has stated time and again our transfer policy will not be effected by the stadium project. That doesn't mean we will suddenly spend more money. All it means is that we wont take transfer money to pay for the stadium, which is essentially saying transfer policy wont change. We will not spend a huge amount more than we bring in.

Look at the signings we've made the last few years. Stambouli, Davies, Fazio, Vorm, Yedlin, Dier, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Alli, N'Jie, Son, and probably Wanyama. Stambouli has since been sold. Fazio and Yedlin will likely be sold next. All signings have been relatively cheap, with the only outlier being Son. What is that telling you? We're looking for cheap players of at least some quality who can contribute to the team, while also carrying at least some sell on value.

Son was an outlier, but one that we had to make for commercial reasons and fan unrest reasons. AIA wanted us to have an Asian player they could market in their home market so we found the most marketable one who was also willing to come. It just so happens that he is a great, young player that we paid alot for. He also served to quell huge unrest from the fans that began to set in after years of poor transfer windows that didnt address needs. His quality and his versatility in the AM allowed Levy to paint him as cover for Kane.
